Active Rain Kodak Challenge- Choosing the Right Closing Gift
Choosing the right closing gift can certainly be a challenge for most of us. But, I started awhile back getting to know my clients interests and some of their needs. I have given a variety of closing gifts over the years. One of my very first clients in my first year in the business, was a co-worker and friend. I knew he loved to play golf, so presenting him with some Taylor made golf clubs was a nice surprise to him.
I have given George Foreman barbecue grills, various types of crystal vases, live flowers and plants, nice paintings, tool kits, kitchen items, bathroom items, and gift cards to Lowe’s, and Home Depot, just to name a view. But, it’s not always the gift the leaves a lasting impression on your clients, it is the thought behind the gift.
Last year I remember this first time home-buyer, who was single parent and little nervous about the security of her new home. I had already suggested to her to have ADT or a similar company come out to install a home security system in her new home, which she had already made those arrangements, but she was still concerned about changing the locks after I gave her the keys to her home when we closed the deal. I immediately told her that I knew how to change locks, and would take care of it that same afternoon. Well, I made a quick stop to Home Depot to purchase new locks for her home. Then, I stopped by as promised to install those locks on her front door, garage door entrance, and the back door. It only took me about 30 or 45 minutes to compete this task. She was thrilled and very pleased that I took the time to insure her safety in that new home. She has since sent me two referrals, whom I assisted in purchasing homes. Sometimes the BEST gift, can be something as simple as changing those locks for the new home owner, or sending the locksmith over to re-key all those locks is another Option I have done with a few past clients.
It’s all about meeting the needs of the client, and giving them a lasting impression. I would venture to say the BEST closing gift will always vary, depending the needs of your client.
