At a town hall meeting at Mount St. Mary's University, led  by Representative Roscoe Bartlett, stink bugs were the main topic of dicussion. This invasive species in now found in 33 states and DC.

The stink bugs have wintered over well, and are poised to continue to damage crops. Robert Black's Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Thurmont Maryland is being used as a test site on how best to trap the invasive species. Damage sometimes doesn't show up until the produce is on sale.

A black pyramid trap, developed by the USDA, has proven the most effective type of trap so far, as compared to commercial traps, and will be deployed between trees in Maryland and West Virginia in a three part experiment this year.

A member of the audience said she has had success in the home with a mixture of vinegar and water, which caused the pests to fall of the wall, and stay away.
