Spring Renewal 2011 Demands Renewed Appreciation for What I Have!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Realty Arts NC Broker License #235526

And, I know have a LOT going for me, personally and professionally, that I should think of when I think of renewal.

Foremost, I have a wonderful wife who stands by me through ups and downs, better and worse, thick and thin, who has never waivered in her support for my real estate work.  Who I look forward to seeing every evening.  What more could a fellow ask for?
So, I will renew my recognition of her position as the Number One motivator in my personal life, and in my desire for success.
Not too bad.  Accountability starts at home.

I have very good health.  Health to allow me strength and energy to run with ideas, duties, efforts, client outreach, and to save some energy for that focus at home, for that wonderful wife.

I have peace of mind, knowing that I will do my best every day to help my clients, to give them clarity and their own peace.

I have skills and education in my real estate business pursuits.  I have taken the classes and updates and seminars to build my confidence in my knowledge and to know my limits.  And I recognize my clients will benefit from that confidence.

What will be different this year?

Marketing and prospecting will be more focused, targeted and disciplined.  I sat down and tried to work up a schematic matrix of what I do on the internet, blogging, networking, socializing, and to calculate how they interact.
And I completely failed to complete it.  A couple of years ago, I took a stab at a whole lot of things, and put effort in a whole lot of different unrelated approaches, and those approaches, en masse, do not make sense.

So, in 2011, I will know why I am on FaceBook and Twitter, or I will dump them.
I will have a disciplined approach to blogging, so I can efficiently use the several sites I have available.
I will be able to tell someone why I am on Foursquare, LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc, or they will be gone.

I will resume working weekends, after avoiding them for the last quarter of 2010, purposely, to have more time at home.
But, I will regulate that work time a little more strictly, so that wonderful wife will not be alone every Sunday, unless I am producing something worth reporting to her.

There are a LOT of "I's" in that story.  There need to be.  While many people will help me achieve my goals in 2011, the ultimate outcome, success or failure is up to ME.

Karen,

Thanks!  That photo is one I caught in the springtime in a Cary neighborhood a few years ago.

It has the most views of all the photos I have posted on Flickr.

Vickie,

Thanks for the kind words!  I'm a sucker for azaleas, and they are starting to want to come out already.

Good plan, Mike. One of the nicest realtors I know has lived with the saying, "Sunday is my Monday." He spends time with his family every Saturday and works for his sellers on Sunday.

Mike, great post! Our success is entirely up to us.  However, it certainly helps that you have a loving wife that is supportive of your real estate career.  Kudos to you for placing her first in this post.  I also like your planned approach to the social networking.

Glenn,

Yes, sir.  I think it helps a guy be nice if he is going to a nice home, having a nice time with family, and enjoying life outside work.

Sondra,

Thanks!   "Planned approach" is a key factor.  Somewhere in there I casually tossed out "disciplined," too.  We'll see....
And, yes, I am very fortunate to have the support at home that I do have.  For sure!

You forgot to mention your height.  Wasn't that the deal on CD?  All great agents are really, really tall?

I did what you are doing now, two years ago.  I decided I wouldn't jump on the next best thing unless I knew exactly why I was doing it and what I wanted to get from it.  That one mental shift has saved me lots and lots of hours.  I'm not on a bazillion social media sites.  I feel much more focused, and honestly unfriending and unfollowing people that don't meet your Twitter and Facebook goals is the way to go.  Think of it as spring cleaning if you will.  :)

MIke you are a blessed guy with a loving wife who cares about you!  And smart plan to figure out what exactly is working for you - and dump the rest.  There is way WAY too much stuff out there to be involved and effective at it all.........and have a life.  Chose and move!!

Mike it is important to have a good support group, wife, family and friends. You are lucky and blessed, not everyone has such a great support group. You and I share this as well. Thank you for sellecting my post as a feature.

Melina,

How could I forget?  Yes.  Always pick the tall guy...  =)

Anna,

Hey, I'm smart enough to realize how blessed I am...  Thanks!

Myrl,

Thanks.  That is how I have it figured, too.

Endre,

You are welcome, and thank you!

Well Done Mike, It is always good to take stock of what is working in our lives, what may be superfluous and what clearly does not give either satisfaction or results in our business. But be clear of this, not everything can be measured quantitatively, some things add the finish to a well furnished life. I give you this analogy. When we furnish our homes, we have chairs, sofas, lamps and tables whose purpose is clearly defined. There are also things, intrinsic in nature, that serve no clearly defined purpose yet they are there. Sometimes they represent or instill memories or even provide a smile and they can be the most precious of all the things. When determining what works and what doesn't and before discarding, be sure they are not the catalyst to something that is important. It is clear that you value life and family which will and have already guided you in those determinations. You are in your own good hands.

William,

Thank you for your kind words and shared wisdom.  Believe me when I say that I believe strongly in recognizing intangible rationalizations of measure of value provided.
