The best way to catch up on stuff when you have fallen behind is by not focusing on catching up.

Do you ever experience times in your life when you have fallen behind? Do you ever experience times when you feel you have fallen behind in everything? I think we all know how that feels. It is an overwhelming feeling. You feel as though you have to work on everything at once.

It is so exhausting mentally because when you try to work on one thing, you have all the other things running through your head at the same time. Here is a lovely technique to shift that energy from overwhelming to calming.

Make a list of all those things you are behind on. Stare at the list and think about the projects before you. Now pick one. Ideally pick one of the smallest ones. Make a plan to work ahead of schedule on that one project. Now do it.

Take your focus away from “catching up” and focus on getting ahead. Work that one project ahead of schedule and feel the energy of that. Focus your mind as often as you can on what you have just accomplished. When you are ready to tackle another project that you are “behind on,” remind yourself that you are ahead on something else.

The energy can shift around all the projects on that list. In fact, go ahead and write down on the list next to the first project you worked on… write “ahead of schedule!”

You will actually feel great relief. Keep your focus as much as possible on the item you are ahead on, and soon you will find you are ahead of schedule on another project, and then another.

You recall that the Law of Attraction states that what you focus your attention on expands. If you want being behind to expand in your life, then focus on being behind and catching up. If you want being ahead to expand in your life, then focus on being ahead. It is as simple a choice as that. And it really works.

It is all a matter of focusing your thoughts. Try it, and watch the magic happen.

Sharon ~ The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time!  It's easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when you get a little bit behind.  I like the idea of lists because it feels so good to cross things off once you have accomplished them!

I have several lists of lists! And I work them all. Focus is the key to success. BTW, like the picture!

I always do list of the "no matter whats."  Today, I have 5 no matter whats!  Everything else is just add-ons for forward progress!  Good stuff!

Good advice, Sharon.  I find this to be true all the time.  But, lists still come in handy!

Sharon, I find breaking things, even if overwhelmed or having fallen behind, into bite size chunks and then with ACTION attacking them, I dig myself out of the hole.

Hi Sharon,  I'll try this next time!  I'm a big list maker, if I write it down on the list it gets done, it's those things I don't write down that may fall behind...but eventually they make their way to the list too!  I

Your words are so true Sharon...it's enough to make it through one day much less compounding it by playing catch up. I put one foot in front of the other and move in a forward direction to see where it takes me everyday. The best to you!

The list exercise helps to us to know what we can accomplish for "this day".... and that  it is enough. Just do what you can now, and put aside all the resistant thoughts that play on "automatic" about trying to "multi-task" to get it all done. Real Estate transactions can get so intense with so many personalities involved in just one house "going into escrow" and getting the deal to close.  Then multiply it by 10, and man oh man, maybe making a list isn't going to help! Sometimes, I like to focus on my steps..... each step, esp. when I start getting "rushed". And I really like to focus on a couple of long slow breaths....... something about the feeling of my lungs filling with air and expanding, and then slowly exhaling connects me.... to me!

Sharon, excellent advise.  It's so easy to get bogged down with your workload that you forget what the priority issues are for the day.  Like prospecting.  If you don't do it, you can't guarantee yourself of future business.  I have been behind the 8 ball myself lately but I realize that I only have so much time in the day and only have so much energy in a day's time.  Thanks for the advice.  I'm heeding it and I'm going to incorporate it into my daily business activities.
