Evacuation vs Shelter-in-Place, Be Prepared, Rockwall County, Texas 75087, 75032

Living and Loving Rockwall County, Texas

Always Be Prepared!  The Boy Scout's creed is something we all know well, most of us hearing it at an early age.  Knowing it does not mean that we are always prepared for emergencies.  Always being prepared is important in whatever we do and is essential to our success and survival.

Rockwall County does try to keep residents well informed and has emergency plans in place, and  Rockwall County residents must also take responsibility for their own safety and survival.

It can be too late to become prepared, as we never know what each day will bring with it.  You can't make a quick trip to the store for supplies once an emergency hits.  I suggest that we all remind ourselves of that Boy Scout creed and "Get Prepared" for emergencies that may happen.

Does your family have an emergency plan?  Do you have a family emergency contact system in place?

There may be emergencies arising in which our local authorities can not get the word out to us, so, again we must be prepared!  Our children should be prepared and know what the family plan is.

Barbara - as is common in our area, we practise food storage. We maintain 72 hour emergency kits for home and vehicles, even down to my disability chariots. The discipline is keeping these maintained (eg rotating the food and water component and keeping it viable). Thanks for sharing the Texas plan.

Good morning, Larry.  Unfortunately most people in this area do not have much of a plan, if any.  I think we are spoiled by not having much really bad weather for long periods of time.  We do have the storms but have been blessed with not anything really bad.  My thought is that you have only one chance to be prepared - if you need it!  Sort of like insurance, good to have and you hope you will never have to use it!

Good Morning Barbara,  We have enough bottle water and food supplies for a week but the thing that I have on our list and keep taking from the basement is the radio.  For some reason it ends up on the deck in the summer month to listing to baseball games.  I will make it a point to buy a new one this weekend.  Thanks for the post.

Hello, Brian.  I think this is the most difficult mindset, to get prepared for disasters.  We all seem to think they will never happen.  Have a great day!

Barbara, Being prepared, makes you feel more confident, that if anything should happen, you will be able to deal better with it.  So important to have a plan in place.

Very good information to share.  Many of us do not have emergency plans.

Hello, Frances, you are right, being prepared makes us more confident in everything we do.  Here's to us all getting our plan in place!

Hi, Roy,  I think that more of us do not have emergency plans in plans than do.  Always looking to see the flower of the day, thanks.

Barbara - We all need an emergency plan.  I keep an extra pair of sneakers under my bed with a flashlight tucked inside one shoe--you never know when an earthquake will strike in the middle of the night and there will be no time to hunt for just the right shoes to avoid broken glass and debris.

Norma, what a great idea!  I am going to get a pair of shoes and flash light for under the bed.  I am thinking about in case of a storm rather than an earth quake.  That is on my to do list for immediate action.  Thanks!
