So you've had a bad day at the office - your deal fell through, your listing didn't appraise, the home inspection revealed a money pit, your sellers won't price their home to sell....

But what if you had this guy's job?

Steeple painter in Charlotte, NC

Oh wait...maybe you need a little bit more perspective to see what this crazy brave soul is doing...

Are your hands sweating yet?  Mine are - these pics really give me the heebeejeebees!  But maybe you need a little MORE perspective...

These photos were taken from my husband's law offices of NexsenPruet, located in the Carillon Building at 227 West Trade Street, on the 15th floor.  These brave painters are from Higher Ground Restoration, a company that refurbishes towers and domes throughout the United States.  The painters are sprucing up a steeple at the First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte - a job that hasn't been undertaken since Hurricane Hugo blew through Charlotte in 1989.

Charlotte NC is preparing the center city for all the visitors and dignitaries who will be attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention.  It is going to be a sight to behold!

I have developed a stronger fear of heights as I get older.  Or maybe it's just good sense taking over.

Funny thing talking about jobs. We we're sitting out having lunch today when the ice cream truck went by. THAT would have to be the worst job hearing that all day long day in and day out. I wold rather be climbing the steeple.

Hi Melissa - Yes, we may feel like we are walking a tight wire every day, but I guess I would still take this job to that job!  : )

Shannon - You are RIGHT!  Whatever they get paid isn't enough!  I was just amazed by these pictures from my husband's office.  He called the local newspaper, and they came to take pictures, but must have opted for the building with 18 floors because they went with a photo from another building.  But I think these photos are better than the ones that made The Charlotte Observer.

Richie, I just KNOW I would topple off!  My husband said that a few months ago, the fire department had to come when these guys were at it - apparently some cables got all tangled up in the gale force winds.  Dear God, how can they do it?

Marge, I don't recall having a fear of heights until I became a mother.  Now my spine tingles and my hands sweat whenever I even THINK about heights!

I don't know, Deborah, hearing that doggone ice cream truck music non-stop might be horrendous, but at least you're ALIVE at the end of the day!  Maybe not sane, but ALIVE!

Chris, no doubt I would take this job over that crazy high altitude job.  It is mesmerizing to watch them work, though!  People just stand in groups on the streets and marvel!

Brenda, I doubt my husband got much quality work done that afternoon.  After being enthralled himself, he called his colleagues in, then their communications director, who called the newspaper.  Then the newspaper photographers came.  I wonder how many people were watching them from all of the office buildings surrounding that church!

Tony and Darcy, yes they ARE nuts!  I wonder what their liability insurance is?

Karen, I agree with you COMPLETELY!  There is NO amount of money that would get me up there...it seems like one of those awful reality TV shows.  I hope they get paid a LOT!

I wonder what they are paid an hour????? I can't imagine that there are very many qualified tradespeople to do this type of work....... I can remember when I first met my husband... at 23, he was walking a "plateline" 4 stories up.... just walking along...carrying his heavy nailbags and some lumber.... framing a condominium project at South Lake Tahoe....OMG!!! I thought "how can he be so balanced and fearless"!!!!

Nevin, when I first saw the pictures, I thought it was YOU!!!  HAHAHAHA!

Teri, those kinds of jobs are for fearless people, you're right!  I wonder if your husband is still not afraid of heights!  My fear just gets worse with age!
