Organic Rankings on Major Search Engines

After posting several articles on my blog, I got a lot feedback on organic rankings.  I'm not bashing organic rankings. In fact, I think that organic rankings within the major search engines are extremely important, but only ten sites can be on the first page.  Therefore, it is equally important for agents to look for other methods to create traffic, capture leads and cultivate clients.

  • Option One:

Build a quality site that is content driven (update often), publish electronic articles with links, develop a pay per click program, join specialty directories, blog your site, cross link with out of state agents etc.  By following the recipe above, you will create traffic to your site and over the course of time your site will climb the organic ladder.

Once you create traffic to your site, you have to capture it.  More often than not, prospects are visiting your website to search the MLS to view home photos and research prices.  This an excellent opportunity to weed out the "tire kickers" and capture property as well as personal info on a serious prospect.

Now that we have captured a prospect, it is time to cultivate.  Finally the agent can do what he/she does best... utilize their greatest asset, people skills, to cultivate a client.

  • Option two:

The agent can work with a reputable lead generation company that generates traffic and captures leads, allowing the agent to concentrate on cultivation.

More often than not, agents get pre-occupied with organic rankings, thus losing focus on cultivation.  Remember, as a real estate agent your greatest strength is your people skills.  So, which option is best?

In my opinion, the best recipe for success is a combination of both. The keys to successful internet marketing are the Three C's: Create Traffic, Capture Prospect & Cultivate Clients.  Let me add one more C, Concentrate on your strengths, hire someone to enhance your weaknesses.

You have great info that many should read...  or maybe, they shouldn't so that those who read can benefit from it more  :)

Excellent point. Diversification is important when it comes to marketing and online marketing is no different. You need to make sure you are taking advantage of every opportunity to market your site and not simply relying on Google (or any natural) rankings. I have seen too many situations were webmasters relied on only Google organic traffic to support their business and when that went away they had to shut down. You feel bad but the common refrain is "don't rely on free rankings to support our business". At one SES Conference someone was bragging to Adam Lasnick from Google that they had great rankings and Google sent 90% of their traffic, Adam responded with "YOU NEED TO DIVERSIFY!". Don't rely on SEO traffic as it could be gone tomorrow and if it is what are you going to do.
