Designing a Subdivision or Two...

Whether I rely on instinct, a map or my my GPS (when possible make a legal U-turn) I seem often to be driving in the unknown (to me).

I find orientation by Cardinal Points to be instinctive; continuous minor deviations, not so much so.

We give Man the credit for the intricate patterning of Subdivisions, and praise his imaginative design.

Nature has had the design for much longer and does not seem to attract the same credit. In fact the design has infinite variations in every leaf of every family or genus of trees or plants.

In my example here, without reference to scale, I may very well have been viewing man-made subdivisions from space. Instead I am viewing Nature - the back of a leaf, and a dead one at that.

Amazing,

Maybe someone else was laying out subdivisions long before an we took over lol

Or maybe thats where some developer actually got the idea

Enjoy the day

I review subdivisions plans and plats all the time and I have never thought of them akin to the back side of a leaf....but you know some of them do look like that! Especially the nicer ones.

Larry ~  Such an interesting observation!  Now, I'm pretty certain this is a sign that you are in serious need of some serious Spring weather!!!!!

Hey there Larry, It really does looks like a very large development. Amazing things we find in nature if we just take the time.

Hey Larry.  I have an aphid looking for something on a cul-de-sac. Anything available there with a side load garage? No short sales please.

Hi Larry,

Brilliant analogy! I love the way you opened it up with an example of maps that we can all relate to, and who hasn't gotten the advise to make a legal u turn if possible? :) made me smile!...

I am going to stop right here and give Nature the kudos it deserves for it's infinite wisdom and design skills!

Thanks for the post!

See you in the rain...

David - lots of good design in Nature.

Don - maybe everything we need in life is already there. We just have to become aware of it.

Sussie - Trick now is to look at plans and plats without thinking of leaves.

Tish - How could you deduce that? Just because I am playing with a toy called a Handheld Digital USB Microscope (Toys R Us)? I was really looking for inflatable vinyl beach balls but Utah is neither warm enough for nor coastal enough for them yet. The only one available was in pink in a Barbie beach set.

JoAnn - the next half inch of the leaf revealed even more new design. I totally agree with your observation. on Nature.

Mike - good joke! Aphids are hard to house around here because of problem neighbors (ladybirds). Steering?

Judi - glad you enjoyed. My GPS is another frustrating piece of technology. The lady giving me directions on my GPS, if I get annoyed, after two warnings, gets sin-binned in favor of the Spanish lady

Larry, what a great picture. At first, I thought you took a ride in helicopter and had an amazing camera to do this close-up shot. I was surprisedto find out at the end of your post, it was a back of a leaf. Nature is amazing! I cannot image what wonders we could create if each of us paid close attention to the nature every day. Thank you for your advice on handling FSBOs.

Elizabeth - Helicopters are a little outside my budget (being low-cost/no-cost oriented), but I like that perspective. I am also intrigued by satellite photos. Nature is full of answers. I understand Velcro was inspired by plant activity
