Fewer Realtors to Choose From

At our association Spring Fling on Thursday, I found that NAR indicates that the average age of a Realtor is 52 * that used to be OLD; however, I now suspect that it is more in line with the WISDOM and MATURITY it takes to remain in this biz.

It seems the numbers are dwindling fast.  I am sure all that remains are the die-hard, can't imagine doing anything else folks, or those that are still having a good year.  Anyone not making a living, or not totally committed must be gone by now.  Our association is down 25% this year over last year, and about 40% down over 5 years ago.   Three agents in our office who have been here for years and were all doing very well have retired this year and we will miss them.  The figures nationwide are a lot worse.

It is also interesting to note how many Realtors have gotten creative and are doing other things along with real estate.  In our office we have an RN, a restaurant owner, farmer, 2 musicians, maintenance worker, property manager, phlebotomist, and a small business owner.

In my immediate area, number of sales this year over last are up slightly, and average price of solds is down 20%.  As my broker always says, people still move for all kinds of reasons, and sooner or later, things will get back to normal, or the new normal.

I think fewer is better for the remaining agents and the consumers. Those that remain are working hard for their clients and working harder at getting new clients!

I had an older broker tell me when I started that when the market is tough the agents who aren't serious will bow out leaving the good hard working ones behind.

It does seem to be the case in our area.

Morning Wallace,  I'm thinking this is the new normal.  At least for the near future.  Your stats are pretty much in line with the national numbers.
