Old picture of Newman Real Estate in Searcy AR. Can you name the location?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

We had a real estate firm in Searcy Arkansas led by Helen and Jay Newman and they were absolute experts in taking a building and turning it into a beautiful real estate location.  They are retired now but had a long and successful real estate team.

This picture is in a yearbook and unless I'm mistaken some of the people in the photo are either REALTORS now or were at some time.  I'm asking my Searcy Sleuths where this building was located.  And you might, if you can, name the people in the photograph.

Anita, put salt and pepper on that hat and it might be a little more tasty.  That is not Dude.  I'm thinking the building was a filling station but am not positive.  I have asked Helen to make a comment.

Debbie, Helen would have been good at making a filling station pretty.  We'll have to hear from her.

Mrs D,

Was this photo from the 1976 "Lion"?

Perhaps the best way to identify the young adults in the photo is to research the "Annual" staff from the yearbook this photo was sourced. Usually the kids on the annual staff had their picture taken with the advertiser. Match the person on the annual staff to their school photo and this photo. I believe the person on the back row far right is a Mr. Greg Cramblett. I also believe he resides in Searcy.

Front row third from left = Tammy Riley Dixon?

Front row, 4th from left = Greg Angel?

Front row, fifth from left = Alan Wilburn?

Former Searcian, I thought I recognized Tammy Dixon, who was once a realtor, and Greg Angel, who is now a realtor.  Alan Wilburn I also recognized.

Is the address 509 North Main? Where the Searcy Children's home is now located. Reflections in the windows may show the old Truman-Baker Chevrolet covered "back lot". Back in those days, I was a Duncan's Chrysler-Plymouth man myself.

Is it the former KWCB radio station, owned by John Paul and Elizabeth Capps?   Being across from Truman Baker gave me that idea.

Who are you, "a former Searcian"?   Not fair to not reveal your identity.

O.K.  If Alan Wilbourn is in the picture, I shall accept defeat graciously.  I am good at that.  Alan is the son of my dear friend, Mildred Taylor Wilbourn, and since Dude was a few years behind us in school, then YES, Barbara you are right.  can't be Dude.  Maybe a little mustard, too, with the salt and pepper?

Godmother,

I have thought about it and, I am quite sure, that is the site of the old Newman Real Estate Office. Did I get it?

Nutsy

To former Searcian and former Duncan's Chrysler man, you have now made us really curious!  Identify yourself or I may "sic" my sleuths on you....Anita leads the pack!

Anita, as I said, I'm not positive about the exact location myself.  For some reason I think it was where the law firm of George Carder is now but I'm not sure.  Helen needs to check in.  The funny thing about the old yearbooks is that they didn't need to put the address in the ad!! They thought the business was famous enough for anyone to find.

Nutsy, you're the only one with half a bran on this blog.  It shows how superious you are with just one superious answer to a stupidious blog done by your brilliance godmaw!  Steven, you can be prideful of this lettle feller!

This sort of reminds me of the old City Service gas station which was on the southwest corner of Main and Race facing Main.

Anita, it took me awhile because we are on the road to Arkansas.  Now in Denver visiting son and family so cut me some slack.  :-)

Sorry, Gene.  Should have known there was a good reason you hadn't jumped in.  I'm still puzzled:  is this the Pershing Gas Station directly across from the Methodist Church?

Safe trip down to Arkansas.

Sorry the people in the pic are from a time long after we left Searcy.

We're back from Kaua'I Hawaii and now in Sunnyvale for a week before heading home and having a visit with Harold and Carolyn.

Barbara, I'm sending you an article about a property that sold near here recently. It is the most expensive

property to include a house ever sold in the U.S. of A.  100 million!

No, this isn't the station directly in front of the Methodist Church.  This one is on the corner of Race abd Main, on the Southwest corner.

Barbara, this was my grandfather's (Troy Haile) service station. The brand was "Amercan". It was on the corner of Race and Main street. If you are on Main Street at the intersection facing north, this station was on the left. It is a parking lot behind First Security Bank now. I remember another service station across the street (east), and Truman Baker Chevrolet was caddy-corner across the intersection. I don't remember what was on the northwest corner.

Harold Gene, thanks for helping.

Kara, I seem to remember that it sat at an angle on the corner.  Is that right?  Thanks for helping with this puzzle about old Searcy Arkansas.  Join the blog and keep helping!
