Glamour shots

By
Real Estate Agent with The Payne Group at Keller Williams Success Realty

Why do realtors insist on these silly glamour shots for their photos.  I see so many of them, especially women, who look like they were dressed up to go to a formal event with thier hair fixed up different than they normally wear it.  The picture looks nothing like them and most look like they were taken 15 years ago.  I understand that a quality photo is needed, but a recent photo is also needed.  I met a realtor recently who has her photo everywhere and I had no clue as to who she was.   I see her billboard everyday on my way to the office. When she introduced herself, it was hard not to laugh.  Do you think that a good photo, one that looks like you, is better than a glamour shot from your high school prom?

One other funny one that I saw made the realtor look like the Fonz from Happy Days, leather jacket with collar up and hair slicked back.

Tell us some funny realtor photos that you have seen.

Good Sunday AM to you Jeff,  So many agents have a glamour shot for their cards, web, etc.  I think a more " natural " shot attracts more and better attention.  And like you said there should be a law about photos being more that 100 years old !

It is kind of ridiculous.  I'll take it a step further...why do you think that Realtors always have pictures on their cards?  Its one of the few professions...

Jeff,

It's even more bizarre when the glamour shot is from the 1980's.

My first broker used a picture in her ads and on her cards that was 20 years (and 100 pounds) old.

People would walk up to her and ask for her.  They say get your face out there, but make sure it's a face people recognize.

hee hee hee - Yea, I've seen some doozies!

(Just so you know, my picture was taken in front of my garage. My mom is on one side of me and my sis is on the other.)

My favorites are the ones with props - you know, phones, pens, signs, oh! and logos!

Portraits are about faces! :D

I understand your point Jeff but as long as the photo is fairly representational (no one looks perfect when they wake up in the morning, have a bad day, or when they just get home from a workout), I see no harm.  Glamour shots enhance the presentation of your business and in real estate, presentation is key.  While I personally don't think that it should matter, I'm sure there are possible clients (with valuable homes) that would select the glamour shot agent in a business suit over an agent with a homemade photo of him/herself wearing a t-shirt.  Just a thought.

I think you see this less and less. So many people have mentioned it and talked about it many agents have gotten the messsage. There are still amny who have not. I know I got mind redone as I did not have the time unitl I said OK , the old photo is 10 years old. Now people say you look much younger than your photos.

I do believe that we need to use good photos and not one in a T-Shirt or a homemade looking photo.  A nice shirt or a suit is good but to look like you used your prom picture from 20 years ago is laughable.

Im not knocking glamour shots. Believe it or not but my picture is a glamour shot. I did my own hair(Its normal n ot boufont) they did do my makeup, but I have normal professional clothes.I do not think that my photos look like the typical glamour shots because believe me I had them done in the 80's and we still have realtors in our area using those same photos from the 80's. If you ever meet me in person you would hopefully say it looks like me!

Man I have seen some good ones too. There is a agaent in my office that has the same name as a famous baseball player and you can only imagine what his picture looks like with a baseball uniform on. I'll let you take it from there.
