A man sitting on a fence watching the world pass by is approached by a lady in a car asking for directions.   After receiving the directions she asks..."Do sit on this fence often?"  to which the old gentleman replies.

"Yes Ma'am, everyday most of the day."

"Well", she says, "I travel all over the country and I see a lot of scenery.  Sitting in one place all the time, well, sounds a bit boring."

The older gentleman looks at her for a second and then replies...

"Ma'am, I sit here on the fence and watch the cars go by.  You sit in your car and watch the fences go by.  Isn't that kinda like the same thing?"

Some people feel they need to be moving and see the world, and others are content to watch the world pass them by.  So, who is right?

I would say the person who is happy is the most right.

Life is what you make of it.  We can't all do the same thing, so do what makes you happy.

Bill, whatever it is, different people see things differently.  As long as I make the best out of everything, I think I am on the right track.

What I find most interesting is the expectation some people have for others to think from their perspective.

I think at different stages of our life, different things and activities bring us happiness.  I use to drive all over the world checking fences now I'm OK with sitting on the fence .

Personally, I think you need to do a little of both! There is a time to go out, be proactive and look for things to do, explore.

But there is also a time to sit back, relax and just watch.

I've never been one to be a fence-post sitter, but I certainly like to take in the view!

William,

That is pretty sage advice. I would sit on the fence unless the car was really fast and fun to drive.

Interesting difference of perspective!  I'd rather see different fences than cars but as you said, do whatever makes you happy

Rita...I agree.

@Own...I made you think, that is what I was hoping for.

Liz, as wwe get older, home sounds really good.

Donald, I also like the variety as song as I am happy doing what ever I do.

Melinda... I like to move about also, but I don't think everyone should.

Betina...I like it!

Bill...

It's the same to me! I like to watch the cars pass on by and wonder about the people inside them.

Bill, I have become more and more of a home body.  I find solace in the simple things close at hand.
