We Have Inspector Gadget Over Here...

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential CT Realty

Inspector GadgetYesterday, I was with my clients for their home inspection. The home inspector called my client to say he was on his way. About 10 to 15 minutes later, he still wasn't there. We had no idea where he was.

Out of nowhere, we heard the doorbell, and it was the inspector. Turns out his GPS sent him to the WRONG address two houses down the street. OOPS! He spent half an hour surveying that other house, wondering why neither of us were there. He didn't realize he was at the wrong place until he saw the right house with a yard sign and cars parked in the driveway.

Everyone makes mistakes :)

However, this shows that even though technology is awesome and very helpful, we can't totally depend on it 100%. We still need to use some intuition on top of a tech gadget's advanced wizardry.

Lydia,

I bet he was embarrassed!

On the other hand, I have "Driven to the sign," and when trying to open the lockbox, realized the home I was supposed to be showing was two doors down...
Whoops!

Lydia - I use my GPS, but it isn't perfect, so I always double check that I am being steered right. GPS or not, you would think that he would have checked the house number with his order and noted that the sign was at the house that did match the order!  I'd wonder about his attention to details in the inspection!

This happens more often than you might think.

I have seen an appriaser take a picture of the wrong house and put it in the appraisal.

I have seen bank cleanout people start work on the wrong house, AFTER breaking in to a house they thought was vacant.

It makes us realize that we can not take anything for granted. Check and double check!

Lydia- I sell a lot of ranch properties and this is a common mistake that a lot of my clients make when meeting me at properties. I always try to pick an easy location to meet instead of at the ranch- gps doesn't recognize a lot of the small ranch roads in my area. I have even had several agents that don't typically sell ranches make this mistake too.

Hi Lydia,

We have so many private roads in our area that the GPS doesn't recognize most of them.  When it does work though, its pretty darned cool.
