Your email signature is like your online business card. While it should have all the pertinent information on it like name, phone number, etc, you should also think of it as a marketing tool to promote yourself and your business wherever you venture online. I'm always surprised to see how many lost opportunities and unprofessional looking signatures come through my inbox daily!
What to consider adding to your email signature:
Perhaps this sounds obvious, but be sure to include a link to your website. We talk so much in the real estate industry about how to drive traffic to our sites, so be sure your email recipients can get there!
Encourage others to visit your social media networks by including links to your Facebook, Twitter, etc. at the end of your signature. You don't want to make it any longer than it needs to be, so try including them on one line. You might even have a quick call to action such as "Find me on...!"
What to consider removing:
Something to remember about your signature is that it should be professional. Anything that might be offensive like political rhetoric or even humor shouldn't be included. I personally don't even like quotes unless it is your mission statement or something directly related to your business.
Images and HTML may make your signature look more fancy, but it also increases the chances that your recipient doesn't see it at all! If you must include these, make sure that the most important information such as name and phone number will still show up well in plain text.
