9 Comments on Accepting Self-Limiting Beliefs... Must We?
Melinda, I think you may be describing a lot of us...the desire to do is much greater than the time-no matter how well-organized we may become. Perhaps that's not such a bad thing-keeps us stretching, reaching for that next dream. We may not accomplish it all, but perhaps more by keeping the dreams.
I do the same. I think sometimes we bite off a little more than we can chew. I boight Photoshop Elements, loaded it and never usced it. Sometimes it is a matter of not having the time. Life gets in the way.
Melinda,
I am a lot older than you and I can say you will never stop wanting to do these things and more! The best advice I can give is try to do one at a time. There is no easy solution, and time is so hard to find lately, but if you can, do at least one thing, spend some TIME on it and then move on to another.
As you get older, your mind still wants to do everything, but your body, not so much:)
Also, I always say to be thankful for all the ideas spinning in your head. I see so many people that are bored out of their minds and have nothing to do...That amazes me!!
I bought Quick Books two years ago on the adice of my accountant. Used it faithfully the first year and barely made an entry the next. I would much rather work in my craft room painting or making jewelry or reading, all of which I put aside because it's not earning money!!
So seriously. if you don't do it now, you never will. Sorry this is such a long comment!!
Melinda, This sounds so familiar. Although I would like to try and do everything, I guess we have to select a few of the best ideas and "go for it".
Melinda, I believe we all have beliefs that are self limiting. Perhaps it is because we believe we cannot do it for lack of time or maybe the timing is not right. Sometimes our beliefs are just a lack of confidence that we can do something or that someone will judge what we have or are doing and it will be negative. Whatever our beliefs are, just doing the best we know and not forgetting our dreams is a great thing. When I was young I loved art and drew and painted all the time. When I was 18 and taking an art class at Willamette University, the professor I had took a liking to certain students who were really talented and did not spur the rest of us on. I was 18 what did I know, but it left such an impact on me I put down my paint brushes for over 20 years and then one day my dream came back and I began painting again and found a lot of success in it. That was a huge self limiting experience mainly just from the lack of mature experiences (being 18) and belief in myself. I say now, if you feel limited, step back and take a very deep breath and ask yourself why you are feeling this way. If it is something you want to pursue step back in and go for it. There is no such thing as failure in my world, sometimes it just does not work for us, but we had at least the opportunity to try. Very nice post.
I feel just a smiggen better about photoshop sitting in the box on my desk. I do however do my own payroll. I hate it, it makes my stomach hurt. I don't want to do it anymore. And you might have just inspired me to see how much my CPA would charge me to do it.
Hello Melinda and a wonderful post, and I love the photo with the flowers and the fence!
VB ;o)
Very re-assuring Beth... thanks!
Okay, I don't feel so bad about the QB progam Jane!
I don't know about the 'a lot older part' but I like your idea of doing one thing at a time Karen!
Guess this is a common problem for everyone, huh Gary!
Thanks for your story Mary... and keep on painting girl ;)
Okay Tammy, You are talking me right out of the QB thing!
Hey VB, long time no talk to... how are things? Are you still in Vegas? How are the girls?
Melinda, I do my best to work with the lists that I make, every night, for the next day. However, sometimes, life and business do interfere with it, often.
