Morehead City Breaks Ground for Baseball Fields

Thank you Town of Morehead and the O'Neal Family for making a dream become a reality.

This week ground breaking took place for the new Legion Fields to be located off Mayberry Loop Rd adjoining the Soccer Complex.

Eastern North Carolina is the hub for great baseball and this opportunity will continue to inspire young boys and provide a means to better their game. These full sized fields will allow to participate at Legion Level.

Thanks to the generous financial contribution from the O'Neal Family and the Town of Morehead, the O'Neal Fields will open the summer of 2008 !

American Legion Code of Sportsmanship

    I will:
       Keep the Rules; Keep Faith with
       my teammates; Keep my temper;
       Keep myself fit;
       Keep a Stout heart in defeat;
       Keep my pride under in victory;
       Keep a sound soul; A clean mind;

Hi Ginger- Sports to me is the best way to keep kids active and out of trouble. I am all for youth activities that build sportsmanship and self esteem.

Michele, that's fantastic. You're right about keeping kids active and out of trouble. I was blessed with kids that were althletes and so tired at the end of the day, they didn't cause trouble. (that I know about, right)

Hey Chris, This area deserves such a great complex, and the O'Neal family donated 100k/ the town gave 400k to make it happen. Not only do the kids benefit, but I know as a parent of athletes as well that it is a great family outing to go watch the teams play !

As a lover of all baseball, be forwarned that 'Legion Baseball' is the most fun to watch. None of the athletes are paid, they all love baseball, and play for the right reasons!!! Some of our local legion teams have won the 'legion world series', The Bears of Boyertown, Pa. in particular! Thanks, Fran

hey Fran, same here- this age is an exciting one to watch...they have their skills sharpened and really put their heart into the game.

Eastern NC team -Greenville- won the LL World Series in Williamsport a few yrs. back!
