Memorial Day weekend is one of those few weekends a year that really grabs our attention. For one, it is a day to remember our fallen men and women in service to our country. Second, it’s a 3-day long holiday weekend. And for us living the active life in North County, it is time for the annual the Encinitas Sports festival. That’s right! The time is drawing near for a fun-filled weekend with plenty of local participation.
The Encinitas Sports Festival kicks off the weekend on Saturday morning, May 14th, at 8:00am, with a fun 1K/5K walk/run that is a blast for seasoned racers and casual walkers alike. The course takes you through downtown Encinitas and finishes at Moonlight Beach. The 5K costs just $20 and the 1K only $10. You are definitely encouraged to bring the whole family as there will be live music, awards, and vendors handing out samples of their products during the Sports Expo on both Saturday and Sunday. Moms, baby strollers are allowed, so please bring the kids!
If the Run/Walk is not challenging enough, there’s more. On Sunday, May 15th, the city of Encinitas is also putting on a Sprint Triathlon and Super Sprint Triathlon, a Duathlon, a 3 and 6 mile paddle(Saturday), and a 1 mile open water swim. There’s something for everyone at the Encinitas Sports Festival!
