March 30th is National Doctor's Day - Pay It Forward to Your Doctor!

doctor I was at my doctor's office today and read that March 30th is National Doctor's Day. I didn't know about this observance day that was created to show appreciation to our doctors.

I don't know about you, but when I am sick...my doctor is the person I want to see....so today I will pay it forward and send a "thank you" eCard to my doctor's ... Dr. Lee, Dr. Ratliff, Dr. Burroughs and Dr. Ryan. You are probably wondering why so many doctors. In 2009 I had congested heart failure and had my left adrenal gland removed. These doctors continue to followup on my well being. They are the best!

According to Wikipedia.....

The first Doctors Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. This first observance included the mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors. The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.

On March 30, 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors' Day. In 1990, the congress and the senate approved legislation establishing National Doctors Day. The resolution designating March 30 as National Doctors' Day was signed by President George Bush.

The day marks the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery. The first National Doctor's Day was celebrated in 1991.

Why not pay it forward and send your doctor(s) an e-greeting card today. I am sure they would be thrilled to know that you were thinking of them. Such a small gesture in comparison for what they do for us!

Rebecca- I had no idea there was a National Doctor's Day! Will they all be out playing golf in the afternoon, though? (JUST KIDDING!) Actually, I'm with you... I've been lucky and have some wonderful doctor's and when I'm sick, besides some chicken soup and my laptop... I want my doctor!

Thanks for letting us know about the National Doctor's Day... I had no idea that it existed. I appreciate the history about how it all began as well.

I had no idea that you had congested heart failure a couple of years ago. I'm very thankful you had such awesome doctors that helped you through all that and made you better. I'm sure you still have to be so careful and watch what you do. I also know that you are in good hands with the Great Physician... Praise our good LORD!

Rebecca... That is such a cool idea. I don't have my doctors email address but I have Kaiser & they have this backend system to send messages to your doctor & you can upload files. Maybe I should try to upload a handmade card that says Happy Doctor Day!! & that we appreciate them. that's pretty fun :)
