Our updated MLS now features a walk score which tells you how walkable the neighborhood is surrounding any specific property. If your MLS doesn't have a walk score, you can find out right here: Walk Score. The walk score of my neighborhood is a 69, one of the highest that I've seen. Although they didn't have walk scores when we moved here, the walkability of a neighborhood has always been high on my list whether renting or owning. Today was an absolutely beautiful day to put that walkability to use, and following are some pictures of flowers that I found along the way. The highways and streets are bursting with blossoms right now. This is what I've always called a pincushion, and I usually only see them at the Zoo or at botanical gardens: My other half tells me that it's a protea. Whatever. Here's a close-up: Pincushion sounds neater. There were many irises blooming. I didn't know irises grew this far inland, much less bloomed. I saw what I think was the tallest pencil cactus I've ever seen: Most of the pencil cacti are solid green, but this is a variety called "fire sticks." You can see why. And lastly, although not a flower, the seed fronds on these ornamental grasses were daintily dancing in the mild breeze, apparently beckoning me to come over and take their pictures, so I did: It's okay to take some time out of your hectic days and simply enjoy the beauty that is all around us! I wonder what my neighborhoods walk score would be? Congrats on yours being a high one. Beautiful flower pictures. I tried to send you an email the other day, but it got kicked back. (I was officially notified earlier today.) I'll try to get it to you via another means I guess. Have a great day tomorrow.
Jim --- I think walk scores are important decision making factor for many buyers(I know it is for me as well). Nice photo opportunities you found while walking in your high walk score neighborhood.
Wow! The pin cushion is my fav of all the photos. (Sorry, Russel! I can't remember the right name, probably couldn't spell it OR pronounce it right either! LOL! oxox)
Jim, I always enjoy your posts and photos. The red pencil cactus is a new one to me!
Hi Jim, I do love those walk scores. Walking, running, jogging, biking, etc is so huge in Colorado. Could be because we have to hibernate like grizzly bears in the winter.
Great blog ! Thank you so much for your nice sharing .Wil be glad to have some business with you .

Jim,
The "walk score" of our community is quite low when measured by the normal conventions of scoring. We have discovered the score doesn't keep Leslee and I from throughly enjoying the value of walking our beautiful community.
Best,
Steve
Jim, great points on Walk Score, as these numbers are pretty important for those wanting an urban life style! Great photos of plants we don't have around here!
Hi Jim - I have looked up walk scores for buyers for whom this is important. Most people don't even know there is such a thing, and buyers are impressed when you can provide that.
Jim--I grew up in small town, PA and we walked everywhere day or night. Small towns were safe places to grow up. I am happy to see that we are returning to those days.
Good post, Jim.
Jim, That's great that your MLS has the Walk Score as part of their information. I'd be happy if our MLS would make it mandatory to have photos, getting a walk score is years away here. Not surprised that your area is so high with all of the great photos you and Russel offer us here at AR. Beautiful pictures! Thank you.
Have a great weekend.
Gloria
The photos are beautiful, as always, but what I really love is learning about the 'walk score'.
I'm hoping that it pertains to NJ, as well!

Jim: Max and I walk almost everyday....I think the "Walk Score", is due to the new generation of home buyers who want things within walking distance! Great idea that SD MLS has!
Hi Jim! Thank you for writing about Walk Score! Glad to hear that your MLS provider is using it.
We've just added a new feature that allows real estate agents to create a flyer with their own info and a map of neighborhood amenties. I'd love to get your feedback!

(Sorry if this is too salesy, I thought you might actually be interested. Please let me know if this a faux pas, I'm still getting my feet wet here on AR.)
