You can find Olinda Rd. originating from the town of Makawao and climbing up the windward side of Haleakala, through incredibly beautiful green pastures and tall eucalyptus trees. It's a slow enjoyable drive, which continues on up about 4 or 5 miles, and connects with Piiholo Rd. which originates by St. Joseph's Church on the northeast side of Makawao.
The cool climate is lovely and many people call this home. Olinda homes give you a feeling of being in the mountains, with a wood stove and pine trees, and distant ocean views. Sometimes you forget you're on an island and want to curl up with a good book and cup of coffee.
Jimi Hendrix was here. Last month I posted my Makawao/Pukalani newsletter which mentioned about Jimi Hendrix playing a free concert on Maui. I got an email inquiry from a musician who was curious about the exact site of that event so he could take a picture when he visits Maui. I didn't have to search for long to find another Maui Realtor who was there in Olinda and remembered the spot, and the wonderful time he had. He was even kind enough to email me a map! Yes it was in a pasture above Seabury Hall, on the same side of the road. You might even catch a glimpse of it here.
Georgina, Until I had lived in Hawaii I never appreciated more than just the beaches. Up country on each of the island's is a very special place and well worth a day to explore.
Your Real Estate Agent on Maui, pictures of homes and properties for sale and market information for buyers and sellers. Maui events and lifestyle too. Maui Hawaii local information as seen through the perspective of a long time resident.

5 Comments on VIDEO: Driving on Olinda Rd. In Makawao Maui HI
Aloha! I like the video, but when I think of Hawaii I think of a slower pace then what the video is. Can you slow it down a bit?
NOTICE: This will be an ignorant statement: I didn't realize you guys had that much farm land...but heck! The best of both worlds!

Kenneth - I'll keep that in mind for the next one!
Sussie - yes we have lots of farmland all over this island - sugar cane is the biggest crop, but there are many family farms too.
Paul - I think more and more tourists are discovering this too.
Thanks for the comments!
Georgina - I am amazed at the amount of wide open farmland you have there! Great short clip!
