One caveat * DIY landlords who accept a consumer procured credit report like this are doing themselves a disservice. These reports are for the consumer's use so that they can CORRECT any MISinformation and not for the purpose of granting credit!

Free Credit Report

Did you know that according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you are entitled to a free credit report once a year (every 12 months). (This is FREE --- repeat FREE! There are many sites out there that claim to be free but they have "processing charges," etc.) You will receive your report from the top 4 credit bureaus: Equifax, Transunion, Experian and Verifax.

  1. Compile everything you need to review your report such as current and past statements, bank account numbers, etc. This will make it easier for you to review your report and identify discrepancies.
  2. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com (this is the ONLY site authorized by the FTC) to request your report from the 4 sites mentioned above.
  3. Be sure to save your report or print it off to keep for your records for future reference.

 

You can also order your credit report over the phone at (877) 322-8228 or via the snail mail by filling out the free credit report form and mailing it to the agency at: Annual Credit Report Request Service - PO Box 105281 - Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

 

Be sure to shred any documents instead of throwing them directly into the trash.
