20 Comments on My Internet Has Gone Down
Malcolm, isn't that fun when that happens - NOT! That happened to us about 2 or 3 days into setting up this all new, singing and dancing, $35,000 machine that was going to simplify our lives - NOT!
Not even an old fashioned fax would come out of the thing! Our admin staff loves it though as it becomes almost like an adult 'snow day'!!
Good luck with Ma Bell :0)
Susan, it felt exactly like a snow day. It could be used as an excuse not to get anything done.
Malcolm, do you have a deck of cards stashed somewhere so you can still play solitaire? ;) I know all that shuffling can get tiring...
Malcolm, that must have been frustrating - internet and cell phones are a must in our industry right now. Take that away, we are in the dark, sorta helpless, until back up and running again.
Peg, I've forgotten how to shuffle cards.
Carla, that's so true. I misplaced my phone for a few hours the other day, and I was in a panic.
That happened once in our office, the power may as well have gone out.
I can use my EVO as a mi-fi for 5 machines * I am waiting for our home wireless to go out so I can hook up my iPAD and laptop.....although I would use my EVO to return e-mails
Rhonda, aint that the truth, no one knew what to do.
Wallace, that sounds like a handy thing to have. Never be unprepared.
Malcolm, I know what you mean... when Helen books us a vacation, "does it have high speed?" is one of the first questions I ask. And if it doesn't I bring my stick with me...
Malcolm - Mine was down for a couple hours a few weeks ago and I actually resorted to writing a few handwritten notes...quaint, I know.
Malcolm,
It's hard to believe how dependent we have become.
Brian
I feel your pain. We had no internet in the office for two days over St Patricks Day. It was enough to lead a person to drink.......and many did.
Chris, yeah, it's horrible not being able to enjoy a vacation because you're worried about checking your email.
Norma, handwriting??? Who does that any more?
Brian, it's something that you don't notice until you don't have it, much like oxygen.
Ellie, yes I can see how it lead people to the drink. Anything to forget.
Hi Malcolm,
Next will be the announcement that the cost for your internet service will go up due to the need for more reliable service. Your networking expert will also knock on the door and say "gee I told you to upgrade" pay .... and we will get you up and running for sure"
More than TV, phone or even ones car...... access to the web has become, almost an obsession for many, one day we will have "WWWW's (World Without Web Workshops to kick the addiction.......;o)
It does happen sometimes...Good luck.
Must have been something in the atmosphere yesterday Malcolm or an early April Fool's joke, our office went down also and we are with Rogers! It is amazing the effecct it had isn't it!?
It is frightening how helpless we have all become without it. It reminds me of many years ago when my son was preschool age. I boiled a cup of water in the microwave each morning for my tea. One day the microwave died and my son said "oh no, how will you make tea?"
Periodically I go for a long hike in the woods w/o technology. On a recent cruise we put our cell phones in the safe for seven days. On the first day we experienced utter withdrawal; then we began to enjoy the freedom.
I hope your office gets back to normal soon, Malcolm.
Malcolm ~ that is the worst thing. We are so addicted to technology. If we have to wait for a site to pop up and it takes longer than 5 seconds we get frustrated. It wasn't that long ago that we all had dial up! My, how times have changed.
