Arizona Oddities - Miserable?  No WAY!!

I subscribe to an interesting little email newsletter that brings me great little tidbits on Odd things in the News regarding Arizona.

Tonight was no exception.  The story was based on a March 29, 2011 story run by the Washington Post entitled, Where Are Americans Most Miserable?  It was based on statistical input regarding "Weak labor markets, falling home values and, recently, and soaring gas prices".

As a Phoenix neighbor a mere 100 miles south in beautiful Tucson, I have to emotionally disagree:

During the snow storm dumps of Winter 2011 - not to mention the 17.4 inches my son just got LAST week in Green Bay, WI....who was more Miserable -- those of us basking in Arizona sunshine, or those shoveling the white stuff in boots and gloves?

Sunsets:  To borrow just a few from Mike Jones, photographer extraordinaire who SHARES his photos, exactly what is Miserable about these???

People:  We are a mix of native, snowbird, summer ducks, winter visitors, and relocators all happy to be enjoying the warmth and flavor of the SW.  We are cowboys, artists, musicians, scholars and students.  We are athletes and engineers, professionals and laborers and retirees.  We are proud, opinionated, political, agressive, laid back, patriotic, loving, protective, helpful, quiet, loud: the entire spectrum of a mult-colored quilt of Americanna.

There are so many reasons why we are NOT miserable, and focus through the hard times makes the good times that much more precious.

Miserable?  No way.  We are ARIZONA and the Wall Street Journal needs to take a little Southwestern Vacation.

Cara, some people will be miserable because they make up their minds to be. People like you, not so much! :) Beautiful pix!

I'm from PA and yes we've experienced the snow storm, but being miserable? nah! far from it! being snowed in gave me more time for my family and re-organize my business plans and strategies.

so yes, I have to agree with Peg... misery sets in when people condition their minds to be in that state. There are a lot of things to be thankful for, we just have to pay closer attention =)

Great post, Cara. Arizona looks so beautiful and your enthusiasm is wonderful. I think someone writing that article put on a blindfold and stuck a pin the map just so they could have a byline. You should send them your post!
