Facebook Groups - Conversations With Select People

I know you are on Facebook. That's a given. Would you post different types of things if you knew it wasn't going to go out to ALL of your 150 friends (that is if you are a typical candidate of Dunbar's Number). Quite likely you may have "friended" quite a few more that that!

Facebook though is a great way to have dynamic and real time conversations on various topics. The question is how is the best way to limit those who can take part in the conversation?? The answer is in using the ability to create a group in Facebook and then invite just the people that you want to be in on the topic in question. Once you have a group, you can post conversations and replies on the group's wall and then only those in the group will see it. Here's a little video by Facebook that talks about groups and how they work.

Any ideas how you might use this?? Any of you in the masterminds challenges? :)

I took a recent Social Fusion class (excellent, BTW) and there was a lot of talk about using groups. I am just starting to set them up (obviously easier to do when you have a small number of friends). It makes lots of sense. Now to find the time to do it all.

I'm in a Facebook Co-Op group to help each other with social media stuff that I love. I want to put all my friends in categories though so that some comments will only go to some, etc. Just haven't had the time to do all that.

This is definitely one of Facebook's best features... I have several groups setup. We used one for the planning committee for the last RE Barcamp and we have a couple of groups for work at The Talon Group for different projects...

Eric - I read that you may want to try compatibility mode (IE has this feature button next to the address bar) - also try firefox or chrome just as comparison to see if same symptom... hth

I'm in a couple of groups right now, and I get a lot more posting action from those groups than my friends I used to have interaction with..I have a feeling they interact in groups more than their own profile.

While I miss talking to them, it also forces me to get more social with people I haven't talked to yet or haven't talked to in a long time, so it's all good!

And, it's a good reason to spend more time on Twitter.

I am on one real estate group that is great, and some others that nobody really uses. LinkedIn has groups as well and some of them are pretty active. It's a great way to break down my friends and connections into manageable sizes!
