A  BIG DEAL?...You bet:

Do
wntown Detroit Gets  it's Grocery Store:
...Detroit
has been known as a "food desert" having seen the lasr store closing in 2007 [ the Farmer Jack];
...residents have had to rely on the independent grocer & or the party store venues;
...in 2008, two stores opened & quickly closed after 2 months;
...co-owner Gil Jarjis is here to stay & to that end will have limited alcohol, NO tobacco products & is debating
   the lottery sales;
...other such stores have not remained in business long in downtown Detroit, the reasons for that are"
    a. higher expenses to bring in product;
    b.financing difficulties;
    c. insurance costs;
    e. other reasons including crimes in & around stores
...admittedly, the prices for some items will be higher than at big chain stores;
...basically the store will carry staples as well as deli counter, fresh meats,  & fresh fruits /vegetable;
...a bakery will be opened within the store, as well as a hot food counter within the coming weeks;
..the store is named "Eve's Downtown Gourmet";
...it is located on Washington Avenue near Grand River;
...it has daily hours of operation, including Saturday & Sunday;
...it is located within walking distance for some Detroit residents;

NOW, it is the time to step up and keep this store viable for the area;
If you see anyone attempting to disrupt the business & / or customers --call the local police or 911;
If you know of some persons who intend to make mischief or worse there--set them straight & stay away.

This is a refreshing event for the downtown area that in the past had it's share of family stores;
Working together to patronize and protect the store can do so much for your local area.

          Another one:

For over a year, the store known as "Ye Old Butcher Shoppe"  has been in the remodel stages;
An re-opening date has yet to be announced;
This is another opportunity for the residents & office workers to stop & shop while in the Woodward Avenue area;

Both of these endeavors are to be applauded & appreciated;
Everyone needs to know that the good items are within walking distance from their homes or workplaces;

May this be the beginning of solid improvements for the downtown Detroit area--once a bastion of great shopping, restaurants & local Businesses.

The Time is Now.

Barb,

What a great looking pie. I have not problem with Downtown Detroit getting a "big piece of the pie."

Best,

Steve

Steve...We truly hope that this will be the time when all work to keep the small businesses viable in the downtown area. Though one is on Gratiot & one on Woodward the actual distances are not a far apart as one would think.  [Detroit having been designed somewhat like a wagon wheel--both Woodward & Gratiot are some of the spokes]  Thanks for your comment. Prayers for keeping your better weather-system in place.  Have a great weekend.

Joshua...yes it does doesn't it; not certain what the store will have in their product line, but do suspect they will carry pies in their 'home-made' lines.  Thanks for your comment.  Have a great week ahead.

Roy....Well thank you for the wish.  April should be great once the weather settles down.  Love that flower, it looks almost like an animal--how neat it that photo.  Have a great week ahead.
