A client called me last week wanting to sell his business and property. 2 years ago he purchased a home in my area as an investment. He doesn't live here - yet. His plan now is to move her with his wife who is expecting their first child. He called asking me to list his business and the building it's in that he owns. The problem is that he lives in Masset, BC - a beautiful, rugged and breathtaking remote community in the Queen Charlotte Islands of the Pacific Northwest of BC. It takes a day just to get there via 2 flights (one sea plane) and a long ferry ride. Population 1000. Best known for eco-tourism and rich Haida Gwaii history.
I contacted all my usual sources asking if anyone could recommend someone as a referral. I sent a huge blanket email to brokers, realtors across the province - NOTHING!
So, I posted on ActiveRain. Nothing for 2 days. Then voila - I received an email from an ActiveRain member letting me know that she herself doesn't serve the area of my referral (too remote, highly specialized and not exactly closeby - but much closer than me) but she provided me with the name and contact of another agent out of Cambell River. (I will have to send her a thanx of some kind). I called the agent and he is happy to take the referral for the STANDARD referral rate! And because he knows the community of Masset so well and my client's business is the only one like it town - he already knows my seller enough to contact him with very little introduction. I am thrilled to have made the connection!
When the agent asked how I got his name - I told him the story of ActiveRain!
