La Casa de Hernán Cortés - Antigua, Mexico

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Venture Realty International

The house of Hernán Cortés is located in Antigua, Mexico north of the City of Veracruz.

For about 75 years it was the only official port in Mexico for the Spanish Empire and saw the transfer of immense quantities of gold and silver to Spain.

Antigua was the first municipality in the Western Hemisphere. It was also the beginning of the original Camino Real which led north to Santa Fe, New Mexico and San Francisco, California.

The ancient Casa de Cortés built of stones, coral and bricks is now a fascinating ruin covered with jungle vines. It was originally a customs house and armory.

This quiet little town of Antigua is well worth a visit.

Gary - Love your photos of the House of Hernán Cortés - make me want to go there! It looks like such  a mystical and intriguing place with all the vines and moss and what fantastic ruins. I may just have to visit Antigua and check it out for myself. You my friend are also a great photographer!

Kristine,  Thank you.  I really loved Antigua.  Next Saturday, I will post a grouping of photos on the ancient church that is still in use.  The whole area has so much to offer and very few Gringos visit the area.  It is only a few miles from the rain forest, the beach, charming colonial towns, historical sites, and ruins. If you ever get the chance to visit the area let me know and I will get a lot of information and some good contacts in the area.  I know you would love the area.

Gary, this looks like a very mysterious place. It makes me wonder who lived there and what happened to those people. I love your photos - you are an amazing photographer. When I travel to Mexico, I would love to stop by Antigua.

Elizabeth, Thank you.  I love to take the photos so I am glad that they can share some wonderful places with others. I always wonder about the people who once lived there when I see ancient ruins. I know you will love Antigua if you ever get a chance to visit.
