A little while back I wrote How To Add Some Depth To Your AR Posts, but it was for MAC ONLY.

Picnik.com Image SampleJennifer Wilson, really wanted a way to do this on her PC, that was easier to use than Photoshop and she wrote a post about it. Well, since it's my fault that she is on this hunt, I felt it was my responsibility to find a solution that would apply to my PC using friends as well.

PICNIK.COM

I've reviewed Picnik.com before, but haven't been back in a while.

I am delighted to tell you they have enhanced their offering and have added a ton of new features, most of which you can use for free and without ever signing up for an account. The image to the right was created online at Picnik.com without signing up for an account. It's easy, fast and you can see everything happening in real time on screen. So, you won't have to guess if it's going to look right.

As you can see, it does the trick of making the image pop off the page. This is just one technic and style you can use there. There are others as well.

Video Tutorial

The video below shows you exactly how I did this, but I think you will find that the site is simple to follow and WAY EASIER to use than Photoshop!

Jennifer... this one's for you.

Jeff  You continue to offer wonderful tips. You really should consider a career in the interweb stuff. Just keep in mind that there are some of us that will mistype picnik and type piknik and that site is like some sort of porn site that keeps on opening window after window.

Oh my goodness...I am having so much fun with this Picnik. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's funny because this is what I thought Picasa should offer and now I can import my Picasa albums right into Picnik. Too cool.

Thanks again Jeff. You Rock!

Jeff - This was so easy to use.  Thank you for sharing!  This puts many of the advanced photoshop techniques at the hands of amateurs.

I took my normal logo and added a simple drop shadow to see how it played - looks fine to me!

Jennifer... I couldn't be happier.

Mike... do it again and add a 5 or 10 pixel white border to the image before you add the drop shadow... it will put a little space around the log and help it stand out.

Fran, I think your "left justified" image is creating some havoc. That is the only thing I can figure.

I think it's pushing the submit comment button off of most people's screens. If you can edit it to be inline that might help.

Jeff, question for you on this program. Have you tried a photo that has a white or transparent background and found that the program automatically places a black background on it? Any work a rounds on that?

I noticed that on some it works but on this one I sure can't get to...how about you giving this one a try and telling me why it puts a black background in automatically.

Here's the photo  Gena's Tulips

Gena... yes, it's because it has a transparent background, not white. It's looking for a jpeg file or a flat (non transparent) file. Save it as a jpeg and it will work fine.

This is awesome.  I am trying to learn all I can about enhancing my blogs and this photo feature is great.

I assume you add it to a blog just by inserting it using the 'tree'.  How did you get it in your blog so that the text wraps around the photo?

You are an amazing source of information.  When I first joined AR I found a blog your wrote on how to insert a RealEstate Show into a blog.  Your video was so well done that I was successful on my first try!

Thank you for sharing your vast wealth of knowledge.

I can upload and edit the photos and they look beautiful on this website site but they never download to my computer (ever-no matter how many times or ways I try) and will not allow me to email them to myself?

therefore I can never use what I've created in a BLog? I've emailed them at this site with no reply?

Ok dude - this blog was quite helpful but one thing I haven't figured out is how do you get a photograph to appear next to verbage?  My photos are always either above or below text?  I'm feeling dumb so if you have a second to answer that one I would appreciate it.  Oh - one more thing - I lied.  are people incorporating html in their blogs for extra points?

Not quite free, but Snag-It is nice for adding a few basic borders. I'll have to bookmark this site for when I want to get a little wild and crazy! As you said, some of these things would take a while to accomplish in Photoshop. Nothing wrong with Photoshop mind you, but we're talking about 2 different things here. Piknik is certainly no replacement for Photoshop in probably any area but adding these types of borders quickly and easily.

Yea Jeff, Picnik is a good FREE program on the web, Ive been using it for awhile...I have a question for you....how do you get your Active Rain Blogs to look like this, the whole blue black Background, the Bold Header and stuff...that's impressive to me...Mahalo in advance for any information you reply with.

Jeff that's very cool. I will have to check out picnick.com What makes it even cooler is it's FREE and if it's free it for me. Anything to make life easier is great!

Thanks,

Ken

Hey Jeff,

I've used Picnik.com with much success as well.

when I add photos to my MLS entries or Realtor.com, it makes them stand out among the rest.

It also looks good on my flyers!

For those of your readers who want to add even more punch to their blogs or web sites, PictureTrail is a nice, very easy to use FREE slideshow maker.

Ok Jeff,

How do you do the cool oversize "Quotes" thing?

And how about the tilting of the pics once you have the frame and shadow?

Thanks

Thanks Jeff, this is a super cool program.  I love it and it really makes photos stand out.  Thank you so much for sharing!

Michael:  Once you upload the picture onto picnik you click the create tab, from there you can select text to add text to the photo.  In the frames, if you select drop shadow, you adjust the angel to have the picture move to the right or left.  If you select the polaroid frame the picture will tilt for you. I hope this helps.

Jeff:  I learned about picnik from this blog post. It is amazing. I use all the time and I can save the pictures to flickr with one step and get the URL so I can insert the picture here on my active rain blog post. Thank you again!

Jeff, thanks for great info.  Just a quickie question - someone earlier asked you how you get the oversized quotes (call outs?) into a post.  They look like an image?  I can't find an answer anywhere.  Thanks.  P.S. Does your head ever explode into a million pieces with all that knowledge up here?
