Suicide in slow motion

By

Looking at the evening blog roll and ran into Michael Thornton's Into ActiveRain, Some Life Must Fall…, then Cindy «in Indy» Marchant-Fishers' OMG...I'm having withdrawal systems AR!

It is about another snafu, the «Service Unavailable», and the frustration of members. There is a side which is touching. Many of us do not even understand the level of attachment until we are faced with inability to post, or to comment, or to even log in.

Usually optimistic members then say that it is fine now and they hope it will be fine from now as the problem has been fixed.

Nope, problems are not behind, they are recurring, and fixing is in the future, and not only in the past. Nice thought, though...

Members know that periodic fixes is an unpleasant part of life, like Special Assessments are part of condo life, for example...

But what about customers who are bumping into AR? Cindy spent a day trying to log in, Michael spent hours trying to log in, but which customer in their sound mind would spend not a day, not hours, not even a minute trying to open a page, which either refuses to download at all, or takes forever?

That's not going to happen. I think this is the problem that AR is facing, and for some reason they keep quiet about it. They either have something up their sleeve, which I doubt very much, since this «magic sleeve» was promised so many times before, or they just can't change it and are trying to navigate to survive.

But how can a social network survive if you can't be social on it so often and for so long?

Sometimes it feels like we are witnessing a suicide in slow motion

Yes, this was rather frustrating yesterday.  I realized during lunch not only am I going through withdrawal, but also, my customers (or potential customers) can't see my blog posts so less llkely to call.  Also not sure what sort effect it has on google bots.

Jon, i've been having trouble even commenting & yesterday i just stopped & moved on to other things...i depend on my localism posts to attract customers so it is an issue..are better days coming or are we on a downward spiral again?

Jon, I have had trouble in the past. Keep in mind it is the internet and is only as good as the provider. AR must be doing something or not and that is why it falls on their face. Frustrating as it is just move on until later in the day.Focus on the positives.

Jon, it's definitely an issue and I'm sure that AR is loosing subscribers as well as rankings when folks can't access the site, or when it works slow.

Jon you make a great point. I am one of those who is too optimistic. Suicide in slow motion is a great descriptor.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Once I was a customer of a lead factory that shall remain nameless.  What is the similarity between a social network company and a lead factory?  When you strip them down to their bare butts, they are both technology companies.  Even though my ROI was around 5:1, I left the lead factory in frustration of their inability to cope with their technology issues.  While I'm not ready to sign off from AR, it is critical to their survival that the tech problems be minimized.

Kristine - it is terrible to lose your work. And it it never comes the same second time around. I started using Word to write blogs and then I just drag them into AR, which allows me to retain the formatting, and at the  same time helps me avoid those surprises from AR< when things disappear in the thin air

Michelle - we actually have it. Did you ever notice Google slowing down, or your bank, or Yahoo.com or any other large site or network?

Internet working all the time has long become a reality. AR working all time is a dream, but it is not something that can't be achieved. Others do it day in day out

Debbie - thank you, this is the key. WHo in their sound mind will be looking for us on AR if it is so slow? That's why it is a suicide

Jon, seems as if I missed that, missed many things actually. And here I was, wishing I was able to find the time to get on, along with the ability.

No connection available at my house due to a tree falling on the cable line... took forever to fix

Grandbaby born.. ok, so that was great!

2 closings on the same day grandbaby was born, that also was great!

My office merged with Prudential Connecticut Realty, that has been lots of work.

So, AR took a back seat to everything. And I was very sad. But now.. not so much!
