Finally, We Are Now Connected.....

You are looking at the tip of the 130 foot Pylon supporting the 550 foot span of  the San Diego Suspension Pedestrian Walking Bridge.

The new Bridge connecting the San Diego Convention center and Petco park will have its first trial on Padres Opening day this Tuesday, April 5th. It one of the longest suspension pedestrian bridges in the world and officially becomes a landmark for San Diego this week.

San Diego Suspension Pedestrian Bridge

As I walked up the many steps, I opted to forgo the beautiful steel and glass elevators on either side. While this was way over budget at 26.8 million, observing the detail in it shiny steel parts looked like a bargain to me.

This nautically themed bridge provides  some awesome views of Harbor Drive and San Diego Downtown

Hi Jeff, Thank you so much. I loved getting in on the story while it is still new, :-). I had the afternoon off and earlier I was at the San Diego Crew Rowing Regatta and captured a good bit of action. Reminded me of being in college again. San Diego sure is blessed with great photo opps.

Hi Susan, It does,  doesn't it. Thank you I was pleased with the results today. With the afternoon off work, a mostly sunny and warm day, I took over a thousand photos today and when I got home, I felt like I had shoveled coal all day, lol. I actually got a sunburn on my face from being on the water and downtown on a roof top near the Bay, it was a really exciting day!

William,

Rather phallic beginning.

Those stairs make my knee hurt just looking at them.

Dear William,

I remember getting off the train from Los Angeles to San Diego and being so thrilled to see the beautiful and vibrant downtown area.

Your photos remind me of the excitement walking around there and then the beach walking.

Great fun!

Have a happy day -
Lynn

Hi Bill, There were a lot of steps but I was so excited to get up there I didn't notice the first time. Various shots required going up and down and I did finally use the elevator to expedite the trip.

Hi Peter and Linda. WOW, thank you so much. I am so happy you found this and I am even more delighted that it brought those warm fuzz feelings about our home town. The bridge is very cool and is another thing our citizens can be proud of. With all the strife and hard times it was just a great feel good day doing something I love to do and that is to show off our home town!

William, what an incredible city you have.  San Diego is gorgeous.  This pedestrian bridge is so unique... and so stylish.  The architect took a simple thing like an overhead walkway, and turned it into a thing of beauty.  Very, very nice... thanks for the great pictures.

Hi Toni, This bridge wasn't love at first sight for me as I watched some of it's construction. But now, I must say, I was totally impressed. The steel components are absolutely stunning.

Hi Michael, It is interesting how the bright sun washing out some of the details makes it look that way. I have this is various light exposures but chose this one for it's almost surreal affect. Thus the artist's rendering appearance. I thought it was cool looking. With several hundred photos of the bridge or various components of it's construction, I had a lot of choices and use a couple different ways to express the design.

Hi Don, Beyond the bridge, I have wanted the an elevated view of Harbor Drive view and was delighted to be able to point straight on and capture it. This suspension bridge will provide access to over 5000 additional parking spaces for the baseball games and that is going to be a big plus.

William - That really is an impressive architectural design.  It's much more than a bridge.  It's a piece of art!  You found the best photo advantage for each picture as well.

Hi Myrl, I didn't see your comment until today, Sorry . Thank you , it was actually wonderful to see this finished and in person. My 70+ photos came out very well compared to the one that appeared in the newspaper. Maybe I should ask if they want want to use mine, LOL.
