I Love Sundays - A Walk Around Town

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

The weather has been gorgeous in Arlington, VA today, so I decided to walk around town and take some pictures. I went to the park surrounding Marine Corps War Memorial. Many people were doing the same - walking and enjoying the sunny day. Below are some photos I took while enoying the Spring day.

View from the park surrounding Iwo Jima Memorial

Prospect House - this is where I watched the fireworks last night

Each condominium in Prospect House, facing Washington, DC has a wall of windows, 2-story high, to maximize spectacular views of the Potomac River and the monuments. The park you see on the picture is adjacent to the Arlington National Cemetery (left) and the Marine Corps War Memorial (right).

Fantastic pictures, Elizabeth!  Keep them coming and thanks for showing a picture of Prospect House where you took the pictures from.  I just wondered if Arlington and Alexandria had a height restriction on hotels, office buildings, and condos to respect the Washington D. C. skyline of monuments?

Bruce - they are many restrictions on heights of buildings in all the places you mentioned. The monuments are too important to this area to be overshadowed by skyscrapers. Thank you for visiting. I will be taking photos of various monuments in the area and posting them here.

Thanks for the information, Elizabeth.  I know that D.C. restricted the height of buildings and it is good to know that the neighbors south of the Potomac do likewise!

Elizabeth -- I love photos of DC. It's just such an awesome place.  Nice to it's starting to bloom, also.  We're still very grey here in CT.

Elizabeth, Great photos.  My favorite is the first one.  I love the composition and the way it is focused. It looks like it should be enlarged and framed.

Gary - thank you for the suggestion. I didn't think of it, but that sounds like a great idea. I could use  a picture of beautiful flowers around my home.

Elizabeth, I had no idea that Marine Corps War Memorial was so huge, what are it's dimentions? Thank you once again for sharing so much beauty with us. Watching fireworks from the wall of window of a unit in Prospect House sounds very romantic.

Bob, the monument towers over the park; below is the description I've found:

"the 32ft (10m) tall figures raising a 60ft/18m high flagpole are placed on a 10ft/3m high base. All the major Marine Corps engagements since its founding in 1775 are inscribed on the base.

Yes, the view from Prospect House is spectacular, especially for watching 4th of July fireworks. It became a family tradition to meet at granddad's place each year to watch the fireworks. There are 9 kids, ages ranging from 2 to 18, in the family, so you can imagine the chaos during our family celebrations.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for sharing these very precious photos.  My last visit to Arlington, VA was in the month of April when the trees were in bloom just like in your photos...  it brought back fond memories.  What a gorgeous place to visit and there really are so many things to see and enjoy where you live.  Please do share more of the monuments with us...  I never tire of looking at them.  Thank you!
