Souhegan High School Theatre Club Brings The Stage To Life!
Review by Caroline DeVore
Amherst, NH: This week-end the Souhegan High School theater ensemble presented Fiddler On The Roof, a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein. Set in the small village of Anatevka, Russia in 1905, the story is largely based on Tevye, the father of five daughters who struggles to maintain family and Jewish tradition on the eve of the Russian Revolutionary Period.
Bravo, bravo to this amazing cast, nearly all of whom are Souhegan High School students, on an outstanding production! I was lucky enough to catch the final performance; the snow-date make-up for the cancelled Friday night performance. My daughter has been a member of the theatre crew for the last 3 years and this was her final production along with many other graduating Seniors who are part of this talented team.
It is difficult to single out any one member of the production as the entire team deserves a round of applause. It was the strength of the whole team that kept every audience member riveted to their seat for the full 2.5 hour production. Ah, and let me not forget to mention The Orchestra (amazing music), The Crew (perfectly timed set changes), and the teachers and school staff who all made this event possible. I simply must give a special nod to Isaiah Silvia-Chandley who played Tevye. This high school Junior has quite the acting/singing career ahead of him! He and his fellow actors brought the stage to life and delivered every line and song like seasoned professionals!
Yes, I'm a proud parent of a member of the crew, but I'm also a proud resident of Amherst, NH and am delighted that our High School students created a magical, Broadway-worthy production of this fantastic musical.
This was the 19th musical event performed by students of SHS since the school opened in 1993. If you have an opportunity to attend the next SHS musical theatre production, you'll certainly be in for a treat. Stay tuned to NH Real Estate Guide where we'll have a page dedicated to area school activities.
Interested in other theatre productions in Amherst, NH? Well, be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Spring Amherst PTA play April 14-17, 2011, also at the SHS Auditorium. This year's performance is Music Man and I'm sure it will be a magnificent production!
To Life!
Caroline
