I’m not a professional food reviewer; I’m happy to be an Oxnard Real Estate Professional in the Oxnard Beach and Marina area, but I know a good meal when I have one. And I certainly had one this past Saturday at Sugar Beets Restaurant and Bar in Downtown Oxnard. I’ve been to lots of restaurants in my life and a salmon dish is routinely one of my preferred menu choices. I’ve had some pretty good dishes at other places. It wasn’t like a huge jump for me to order the Cedar Plank Salmon off the Sugar Beets dinner menu. Before I tell you how that went I have to also mention that for an appetizer I ordered their Crab and Corn Cakes. Now, if that was an indication of what to expect with the Cedar Plank Salmon, I knew I was in for a real treat. They were pretty darned good!
Drum roll, please! How was the Cedar Planked Salmon? Oh My Gossssshhhhhhh! I’ve never, absolutely never, have had a better salmon dish! Served with garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and herb chive cream, it was perfectly cooked and flavored. I can’t tell you how any times during the meal that I said to my husband, “This is the best salmon I’ve ever had.” The star on the plate was that herb chive cream. They should sell that stuff in a bottle. It was a perfect blend of whatever herbs, chives and cream they mixed together (remember I’m not a professional reviewer). I was so perfectly pleased with my meal.
For me a good dining experience has to be more than just a good meal; it has to include good service and a clean bathroom. I expect the staff to be welcoming, polite and proficient. Check, check and check. 
My experience with the staff certainly met my expectation. Call me a germaphobe if you want but checking out the restroom is a part of my dining experience. I’ve walked out of other places because of the condition of the restroom. Well, the fact that I’m writing this review shows that they earn another “check” in that area. I plan to go back again soon.
