Hi guys...

I'm not sure if it's just that time of year, Spring Fever or something else but the level of drama on ActiveRain seems to have hit a new all time high lately. Everything from rude comments to ongoing drama that doesn't really benefit anyone. Michael and Lenn are just 2 of many who've had to deal with the stupid stuff that goes on here on AR, Facebook and pretty much everywhere else online.

It's happened to me and eventually it will probably happen to you. But just for fun, I want to set aside the very real possibility of legal consequences from bashing people in posts or comments and look at something that is more likely to happen.

For everyone person who comments on these type of mini dramas, they are probably 5 or 10 (or more) who read but never comment. But the drama leaves a lasting impression, probably not a very good one.

I don't know about you but most of the emails and projects I receive thru ActiveRain are from people who've been reading my blog for a long time and contact me when they want more info, a quote or whatever but...

I've never heard of most of them until they contact me. I call them The Silent Majority. They read without commenting and get in touch with me if/when they want to do something awesome together.

I'm Irish and walking away from a fight just isn't in my nature, I'll stand up for myself anytime, anywhere but I've learned that fighting stupid battles for the world to see (online) just isn't a smart business decision so if possible, I don't do it.

- I don't have the time or patience for drama

- I'm normally crazy busy and often refer projects to other people

- I won't refer projects to people who create drama, my clients don't have the time or patience either

The things is, The Silent Majority might not comment or get involved in the online stupidity but they are reading, watching and probably staying away from the drama kings/queens. Online drama is like peeing in public, it happens but it's not a great marketing strategy. Maybe I'm wrong, what do you think???

Huh, I must miss all this stuff somehow. I don't see much bashing but obviously it is there or you wouldn't have written this post.  Everything is permanent here in AR & the web.  Think of it that way when you reply or comment.  Some people just don't fathom that.  There are a few issues here that will set my blood boiling (Zillow is one) but for the most part I'm pretty mellow.

I have been very impressed with the level of support I have received from activerainers. I have read dozens and dozens (I'm fairly new) of informative, well written blogs. That's where my focus is. I expect to continue enjoying the community.

Donna... welcome to AR, the pinheads are the minority so just ignore them if/when you stumble upon them.

marti - i'm going to break my silence - i'm always in awe of your grahic in your post - amazing creativity...yup, we should all be sensitive on our comments - if we have nothing good to say, it's better to keep them to ourselves...just imagine what the world would be like if we are all encouraging each other...

Angela... thx and great attitude you have. I try to stay out of the online stupidity as much as possible. Like you said, encouraging people is a better way to spend our time!

Marti - this is amazing advise.  I, too, hate drama.  We have too much of it in our everyday life - so why insert it in our professional life!  Good reminder - keep it positive!  I enjoyed this post, first one I have read of yours.  I WILL BE BACK TO READ SOME OF YOUR PAST POSTS.

Barbara... you're right, everyday life has enough "stuff" going on without adding any artificial drama. Thx for stopping by.

Dang it! I missed the AR soap opera (darn).

I was busy figuring out life without driving because I recently had a seizure and the neurologist wants me to be seizure free for 6 months before I drive again, getting Larry to the airport (getting help to drive him on 2 hour notice since I cannot drive) because his Gramma went to the hospital in an emergency situation, my mum had a doctors appointment, a dear family friend dying, a killer migraine, showing 18 homes in a day (having clients drive since I cannot) and a few other things. I don't need anymore drama-my cup runneth over already with the real stuff.

Marti, great way to remind us that this is not life and death. We can all play nicer in the proverbial sandbox! Thank you for taking the time to stand up and say it out loud. :)

Kind of goes back to sandbox basics - if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all!

Love the Drama Llama - too cute!!

Jacque and Larry... absolutely! In the bigger picture, online stupidities don't matter much.

I am thoroughly convinced there are some people who thrive on drama and, if there isn't anything going on, they will create something!

I run from those types!  Who needs it anyway???

Marti:

The comments on a few blog take my breath away and make me sad.  If I comment, I try to make positive statements, not taking either side because I don't and probably won't know the whole story.

Thanks for your resource information.  I don't know any of the apps or sites you mentioned, but I am going to try them now.

No time for the drama either. I think people feel it's okay to rant and bash if they don't see you face to face.  But their potential clients see them online, that's probably not in their best interest...
