And the Rain keeps a'comin' all night long .... the rain keeps a'comin'....

One of the mysteries of mankind is our perchance to build communities in low lying areas; erect high rise buildings along fault lines; and construct Nuclear plants on precarious shorelines.

To this end, Winnoipeg is once again summoning Sandbaggers from as far away as Australia, alerting Red Cross workers, and prepping the National Guard and Military for a busy spring season. Citizens are bracing for the rushing flow of water from our South Dakota neighbors. The Winnipeg Floodway aka Duff's Ditch - built in the 60's to protect the homes and property of residents for a 1 in 99 year flood - bulges wiith ice dams and threatens to overflow weeks before the majority of water arrives.

Sandbaggers wanted.

Outside Blog Attended Rain Camp

Living on the coast, we deal with a lot of Mother Nature's tricks.  But, we all love it here...and, keep building!

I never knew about the flooding problem along the Red River up there until a client of mine from Winnipeg mentioned it.

And I also always thought the Red River was the river between Texas and Oklahoma!

Now I have learned that one is called The Red River of the North and the other is called The Red River of the South.

Good Mornig Sharon, I was not aware of the potential flooding.

The Red River is one of a very few rivers in the word that flow North. Most rivers flow South, as the water originates from melting mountains. The problem created by our Mighty Red is directly attributed to ice dams. Where it wants to go - there is no flow.

Well, that and the flat land.
