Autism RibbonApril is Autism Awareness Month in Reno and around the country! For area family members who have been touched by autism it may help to know that the Reno community has many events planned to help raise money and awareness for this epidemic.

I certainly hope it will help!

For those who have not been effected are encouraged to go out and participate in and to learn more on how autism effects so many in your community.

What a great time to reach out to those families who are struggling with autism and let them know you care.

Here are a few of the scheduled Autism Awareness events scheduled for the Reno / Sparks Nevada areas this month (APRIL 2011):

KIDS & HORSES ~ Kids & Horses will honor autism awareness with a trail ride and poker run, "Ride the Trail in Their Spurs," from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., April 23 at the Double W Ranch, where Kids & Horses is located in Minden.

The goal is to create awareness about autism, therapeutic riding and help fund scholarships for students in need.

UCAN ~  The University Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment (UCAN) and The Lili Claire Foundation, Inc.will be hosting the 2011 Spring Forward for Autism 5k Walk/Run and 1 Mile Fun Run at the Mackay Stadium on April 17

Events will include a kids corner, food, music, a raffle, and some good old fashion exercise. 5K timed run will start at 9:00am; 1 Mile Fun Run will start at 9:45am; and 5K walk will start at 10:30am.

April 9th and 10th  2011 Moms Fighting Autism  is putting on their second annual Online Autism Conference. Interact and learn from over 17 guest speakers on the subject of Autism. Register right here to take part in this online event.

If you are unable to attend a Autism event this month, make a donation and be assured 100% of your donation will go toward autism.

April is Autism Awareness Month in Reno and across the country. Why not take advantage of one or more of the scheduled activities happening all month, make a donation or simply reach out to someone who has been effected by Autism.

Terrie, It is so amazing at how many children now have autism.  I'm older and as a young child and young woman I rarely saw autism.  I have to be honest I have to wonder about what affect our vaccinations have had on this.

Marchel ~ I completely agree with you. There has to be something, obviously, contributing autism. I never heard of it growing up either. I hope a cure is near.
