Luckily the owners of this Layton Utah home found Thermal Imaging(infrared).

I was called to a home in Layton, Utah yesterday because the owners had run into a big problem. They wanted to take advantage of some of the great energy upgrade incentives provided by the State. The first project they planned to start with was solar panel skylights. They quickly learned that their ceilings would pose as a significant problem due to having radiant heat coils throughout the home. Busting into a ceiling and damaging/rupturing the liquid filled tubes would have been a huge mess combined with an a huge repair cost.

They called wanting to know if there was anyway possible I could identify which parts of their ceiling were filled with radiant coils. In less than an hour and for less than $100 I had their entire home mapped out and ready for the carpenters to go to work.

These clients will definitely be using infrared for all their future home inspection and maintenance needs. To see some of the MANY MANY benefits provided by Utah Infrared Inspections, visit the Utah Infrared website at www.UtahInfraredInspection.com

I LOVE the wide angle lense Brandon!  I may have to get me one of those.

Jim,

It's the best business investment I've made (other than the actual camera). You'll wonder how you made it so long without one. I probably haven't taken it off in over a month now. I got the tele-photo lens as well but I've rarely found a need for it(wasted my money on that one).

I believe you can get the wide-angle for under $1000 but the only downside is you lose your IR Fusion capabilities because the edge of the lens covers the digital camera.

Ah ha!  So you must be doing some photo shoping with those fused photos eh?  Very nice.  It can be tricky to get the visual camera in the same place/angle as the thermal.

Yep Jim,

Obviously the regular view allows for the picture in picture or IR-Fusion but the wide-angle requires some additional work. I have to take the thermal image then take a digital image in the exact location then use Power Point to make them overlay. Although Power Point isn't the best image and picture management program, I've yet to find another program as simple and quick to use as Power Point.

I'll put my pictures on one computer screen and have Power Point open on the other. I can then just drag an drop the images into PP and line them up. It's unfortunate FLUKE couldn't have overcome the wide-angle design flaw considering FLIR has the exact same issue people complain about.
