Boise's Own Roller Derby

By

I have been a fan of roller skating since I was a kid.  I even tried to teach my mom when I was 11, but I couldn't get her to let go of the chainlink fence (some people just can't be taught).  The Drew Barrymore film "Whip It" renewed my interest in checking out roller derbies.  Imagine my giddiness when I saw a billboard ad for the Treasure Valley Rollergirls, Boise's own roller derby team.  Of course, I rushed to get my tickets.  They will be taking on the Salt City Shakers (from Salt Lake City) and the Southern Oregon Rollergirls (out of Medford, OR) at the Qwest Arena in Boise in a special "Quadromania" on Saturday, April 16, 2011.

Whip It Treasure Valley Rollergirls

If you're interested in attending, tickets are only $10 each for general admission and VIP floor seating.  Doors open at 6pm and the first bout begins at 7pm.  You can purchase tickets at the Qwest Arena, but the girls only get a percentage of the money from those ticket sales.  If you purchase your tickets online or at one of the following local stores, all the money goes directly to the girls:

  • Need to Bead (1100 N Orchard St, Boise)
  • Thomas Hammer (on 8th, Boise)
  • Record Exchange (in Boise)
  • Munter's Ink (in Nampa)

I've got my tickets ready.  Give me a shout if you'll be there!

When I was in Jr High school About 6 of my girlfriends and I used to go roller skating at our local rink and we became roller derby fans.  We all decided we'd join the roller derby as soon as we were old enough.  We used to whip each other around and skate all wild, and finally the manager kicked us out once because we were scaring some of the younger skaters.  I still feel that old excitement when I think about the roller derby though.  I wonder if they'd take an old lady!

Heather.. Do I see a second career in your near future? I don't know about roller derby for me, but I LOVE roller skating. I did it for 18 years... 6 nights a week.

This was postponed to this upcoming Saturday, April 16th due to the Steelheads (hockey) playoffs happening last weekend.  I'm actually beginning to get into the local sports scene a bit more.  Crazy, but true.  Didn't do that in Southern California much.  It's pretty fun.
