The Royal Glenora Club is celebrating 50 years of operation this spring with a history project, a gala members event on April 30th, and a star-studded ice show May 20th through 22nd. The club officially opened the doors to its new premises on Sunday, April 23, 1961, yet the roots of the organization go back nearly 100 years.

The Glenora Club was formed on July 21, 1958, after the city informed the Glenora Skating and Tennis Club (which dated from 1923) that it would no longer provide tax concessions to use its site at 10137 120th Street. The following year, the Royal Curling Club (established in 1917) and the Braemar Badminton Club decided to join the new organization as well. The newly constituted group was then renamed the Royal Glenora Club.
