Sure, you can always provide an amazing experience to your veterans during the course of a purchase or refinance, but how do you take it one step further? Veterans look for a house more frequently than non-veterans. Why? Obviously it's because they are forced to relocate for work more than the average Joe. So while they are forced to move to various locations, they need a friend every where they go. If their first task in a new location is to buy a home, you better bet your money that you have the opportunity to be that friend.

handshake Why do they need you for a friend? DUH! When you are new in a city, you need pointers. Where are some good spots to hang out (make sure you have some suggestions for family and single soldiers)? Who is a good contractor for home repairs? Who has the best cable rates in town? You can help these soldiers who put their lives on the line every day. The best way to help out is to put a list together of vendors you know and trust to do work for you: painters, plumbers, vacation planners, accountants, financial planners, insurance agents, you name it!

How do you present this information to your soldier? Here's what we were thinking: try to put together a folder with your team name on the front in big bold letters "TEAM HARLINGTON" then type a sub-heading that reads "Thanks for serving us & thanks for letting us serve you." Then inside is either a list of suggested vendors or pamphlets from each of the vendors with your recommendation stapled to the front. I know if someone took the time to put this together for me, I would think "Wow, they really believe in their recommendations." So do the veteran a favor.... Help out with more than his/her home purchase. Help build a life.

I love the idea of going the extra mile for these guys. I have quite a few friends who are in or out of the military and you are certainly correct about how much they move around! A friendly face in a new town is always a good way to get a fresh start.
