Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Lea Dunn, Deputy Town Manager, spoke to us.
Here are some interesting tidbits from Lea's presentation.
- 15 years ago this week, Lea began working for the Town of Addison (happy anniversary, Lea!)
- Lea grew up in Austin and earned a graduate degree at the LBJ School of Public Affairs
- Her first job was with the Dallas Area Agency on Aging
- She then worked as Garland's Director of Aging program and went on to work as an educator at the Dallas Area Lung Association
- Her husband's job took them to Houston and Lea hired on at the City of Belaire, first as HR Director where she learned every business a city is in, then as assistant city manager, and she was promoted to City Manager
- When her husband's job took them to Dallas, Lea contacted Addison's City Manager Ron Whitehead, whom she had known through the Texas City Managers Association and Ron hired her
- Lea's areas of responsibility include HR, police, fire, public works, development services, and the city secretary
- Recent projects of note include the new hospital, the Vitruvian Way project, and the new water tower now under construction
- The water tower will be a piece of art and will have 10 wind turbines to generate electricity and a learning center inside - it will be operational by August next year
