Pembroke Pines Makes Poor Real Estate Investment Decision

Over the last year I have noticed more and more speed traps across the city of Pembroke Pines.  Twice, I have been ticketed in that time when I haven't had single ticket in the previous 15 plus years I have been living here.  So, I went to my attorney to fight it for me.  He says the city is hurting financially, like everyone else, and this is an easy way to pick up funds from the public.

You know, it's bad enough that everyone is struggling, but when you do something like this, it hurts people more than you think.  What I am getting at is a place called City Center in Pembroke Pines.

Now, officials are mulling a new $11.4 million public theater at City Center that would seat around 3,000 people. The intent is to attract tourists to City Center, which has sat vacant since Pembroke Pines bought it for $68 million in 2006 with none of the originally-planned development coming to fruition. But some local politicians are wary that the city can afford it. "I don't think we have the money for this theater, and I don't know where we're going to get the money for this," Commissioner Carl Shechter said, noting that the additional traffic may also present a problem. "The idea... does not make economic sense right now.

So, in essence, who is footing the bill for this $68 million fiasco?  The tax payers, of course.  Now they want to talk about building an $11.4 million theater that nobody can afford to go to.  The place is a bust and the sooner they come to that realization the better.  Either dump it and help out the taxpayers or just put a park in there.  Follow this link to view the city's plans and you be the judge.
