Flip-Flop charm is a relatively NEW TERM for a description of some of our COASTAL TOWNS here in Southern Flip FlopsCalifornia....(I think Ahhnold should do some Commercials for cleaning products, say...FAN-tastic Spray Cleaner?)...talk about charm. Mainly the term refers to a turn-back-the-clock feel of coastal towns and the desire to avoid over-building or "Mansionization".

Flip-Flop Charm....Who has it and who doesn't? Seal Beach is trying to hold on to theirs....Hermosa Beach pretty much invented the style...Manhattan Beach RULES for where I might buy said Flip-Flops (good luck...I wear size 15!-YIKES!), BUT actually wearing them would be de rigueur at the shops on Highland. Santa Monica? Not a chance. Pacific Palisades?, maybe, if Flip-Flops made a waffle tread....

Thomas, I was reading an article about this recently in the Beach Reporter.  Apparantly there is a growing rift between "old timers" and "new comers"- as the new comers have paid a ton for their new homes and don't appreciate the old charm of the small beach bungalows and wetsuits hanging on porches to dry.  Too bad for both really as they each actually benefit from the other.

The long time residents have earned so much on their investment as new comers are willing and able to pay the rising housing prices.  The new comers should have respect and appreciation for the original residents who founded and embody what beach living is all about.

Maybe fashion examplifies how to live in harmony because I always see girls at the beach wearing expensive clothes from stores on Highland with Rainbow brand flip flops.
