OMG LOL - I "lost" this post from a month ago and never published. Thanks to the new link where you can view your old drafts - I found this and several other partially written posts.
I really had a great time at RainCamp in Atlantic City. Certainly, I learned a TON...and I mean a ton. I think the 2 day format was a definite PLUS in more ways than one.
But, what made RainCamp so special was the people. We had a ton of fun meeting each other/reconnecting. I can't even begin to tell you how exciting it is to meet all these people you've been following live and in person. Some of them I had spoken to on the phone (and several times). It was just like we were old friends...and we all hugged each other as soon as we recognized one another. It was really neat. I'm seriously going through withdrawal now. Yesterday, when I got back home I called Dagny to tell her how much I missed everyone.
Dagny Eason Ginny Gorman Judy Klem
So, it all started in the car ride to Atlantic City. The charming Dagny drove us and I was greeted by Dagny, Ginny Gorman and Judy Klem - such a wonderful group of women - so energetic and funny and personable. Everyone was just as we expected...except Ginny was taller than we expected and I was shorter. (so many people at RainCamp said "I looked taller in my picture" which I think is so entertaining since it's just a head shot.
We had TONS to talk about and it seemed like the time in the car just flew...except of course when we were trying to find a gas station before the car went kerplunk. Apparently Dagny was so engrossed in the conversation that she didn't notice the gas was on empty and had no idea how long the gas light was flashing. Normally, this would not be a big deal, but little did we know that Dagny has a handicap...her GPS. The stupid GPS wasn't working right and kept leading us round in circles in the middle of nowhere. Seriously...we spent half an hour trying to find gas and trying to get back to the Garden State Parkway. At least it was with 3 entertaining women, so it wasn't so bad.
Fast forward to dinner where we went to P.F. Changs which we were told was just a block and half outside the hotel. NOT! I was starving (and cranky since I was low on blood sugar) and most of us didn't have coats since we wre originally going to eat in the hotel. So, after hiking back to New York, we finally arrived...and guess what? No tables and 30 min wait. Uh oh. We were about to leave, but somehow they made it work w/ only 5 min wait...and they gave me some coke to tide me over.
Such a great group of Active Rainers...Patricia Kennedy, Marcie Sandalow, Mark Montross, Lisa Friedman and of course the 4 of us. We represented DC, MD, NY, CT, RI and VT. So much fun...we hung out way beyond finishing our food and then rushed back to the hotel (had to since we didn't have coats). Dagny invited everyone up to her room for some wine - she is always the hostess with the mostess...wait, where was the banana bread, come to think of it?
Dagny gave us great advice...get there early in the morning so we can get great front row seats so we can see everything. Of course we were successful in that mission and were especially anxious to get there so we could get our internet connection and leave comments and blog!
Now it looks like I still intended to do at least a Part II. I forgot what I was going to write about though, LOL
