The Dog Ate My Homework

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

As of today I have a brand new and novel excuse for why we were late to the closing.  Here is what happened...

My seller is old, in poor condition, on oxygen.  Her spouse isn't familiar with the city and didn't think he could find the title company.  I told her No Problem, I'll just come get you.  Easy!

The house is about 8 miles from my office, on the other side of downtown.  I was about a mile away from their house when the call came in.  It was from a family member.  "Judith," she said, "you are going to have to come into the neighborhood the back way, the SWAT team has blocked off the street the other way".  SWAT Team?  SWAT Team?  Oh Golly.....

So, I went the back way and sure enough, my listing was at the extreme western end of about 3 solid blocks filled pretty much completely with police cars.  I went into the house, collected my client, put her and her oxygen tank into the car, and off we went to the closing.  We were late.  Walking into the title company and casually explaining that we would have been on time but we had to work our way around the SWAT team members.....well...you just would have to have been there to fully appreciate the humor of the situation.

And, before you ask, I have to tell you that I have no idea why all those police were there.  It isn't in the news.  I have family living pretty much at the epicenter of where all those taxpayer assets were parked.  I phoned to see if they had any idea of what had happened and they didn't know either.

I will tell you that it has been a very, very strange week!

I had something happen that was very similar...but in a different fashion. I have a young couple wanting to sale their home in a very nice neighborhood. There was a bank robbed in the city across town with a high speed chase into their neighborhood with shots fired, I found out about in on their facebook page..... Holy smokes get that off your facebook page we are trying to sale your home......

@Lori:  Bad things happen in every type of neighborhood.  That is the reality of urban living.  The episode today wasn't bad enough to rate a TV crew.

I once came home from work during my college years to find my neighborhood blocked off by the SWAT team.  I had a horrible migraine and my only thought was getting into my family home to a bottle of Advil, a hot washcloth and a dark and quiet room.  There were woods behind our home.  I left the neighborhood streets, went to the back of the woods, parked and walked through the woods to get home.  I knocked on the back door of my home and scared my Mom to death in the process.  All that trouble for a guy holding himself up in the house up the street with a shotgun because he'd gotten another DUI.
