AR Blogs in general

By
Commercial Real Estate Agent

I've read it all......from "not enough comment" blogs otherwise known as frustrated bloggers to "how to get X pts in X days" otherwise known as lame writers to "They stole my content" blogs otherwise known as "I need attention and credit".

No matter how many times I log on I see all these blogs that are specifically designed to outrage, enrage or try to gain traction with the many members of Active Rain I am disappointed.  Sure it has worked in most cases, if your goal is to gain 200 comments and gain points.  But is that what blogging and active rain are about?

I'd like to hope not.  The only reason I blog is to try to create some sanity in my life.  Sure being able to help someone or sell yourself within a blog is always desired, however if the only reason you are writing is to gain "google juice" you may have missed the boat.

Isn't blogging about you yourself and how you feel?  Sure some opinions are great from time to time, but if your only subject in the blog is about poor pitiful me and how can I outgain Joe Schmoe in points then I'm afraid I'm not willing to comment any longer.   Here is something that may be helpful to those bloggers out there that are having trouble coming up with subjects or like to borrow others subject matter.

I received two clients over the past month who found me via active rain.  They appreciated that I was the only agent (of those they read which may have only been 1) who seemed "real" online.  Perhaps I have found a niche that is undiscovered, or maybe I just got really lucky that they found me when they did before I actually sold out and starting writing this particular blog.  Either way it doesn't matter to me, blogging isn't just about the people that read the article.  I have created sanity in my days with writing true emotions into a blog post.

Good luck to everyone in getting their beloved points and wishing for more comments.  I wish you luck, for my goal is to have more clients not comments.

While there are many reasons I blog, some is to get points, some is for SEO, but sometimes, such as a couple of my blogs, I asked for opinions about the honesty of Mortgage Brokers & title companies, see my blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/193083/Calling-all-mortgage-brokers which was about honesty and the illegal practice of back-dating, and the blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/213564/Mortgage-Brokers-Title-Companieswhere, I wanted feedback, even if it was by email (which I get no points) so those were cases of my desire to get other help, opinions, and/or advise, no matter if I get points or not.  So, while I love getting points, and I love getting good SEO for my efforts.  Many times that is my desire, but it is not alwaysabout that - sometimes I just want feedback, no matter how or what the means.  I do understand though why you wrote this, sometimes it does seem some do not care much about things other than ONLY SEO or points.

Ryan,

I can't agree with you more. I just wrote a post about the same thing from a slightly different angle. I appreciate you voicing this in a post and it's even better that you are seeing results from being "real". As AR grows bigger, it's going to be even more important to be yourself, or we'll all be lost in a sea of copycat bloggers chasing after the same prize. Thanks for the post.

Ronald - to be perfectly honest your comment with 3 links to your blog shows me exactly what you are about.

Andrew - appreciate the comment, will check in on your blog ASAP.

Daryn - I'm always willing to do what is in the best interests for my client and even more willing to try that out from time to time with someone I don't know.  Thanks.

Ha! Love your comment about the gratuitous linking. =)  Just be patient and ignore the drama-those folks who whine and don't do anything helpful or substantial vanish into cyberspace in short order.

BTW, I copy & paste, but when you type in a link, AR AUTOMATICALLY creates a link.  I figured out how to unlink it though.   yes, sometimes it is points & SEO, but NOT always, you missed that point.  Oh well...no biggie

Or, we can blog about why others blog and get points for that too.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I blog for Google juice.  I blog on ActiveRain for points and Google Juice.  I blog because it's a conversation with friends in my business.

I blog because I want to.

Ryan, it is good to find someone else who gets it. I started blogging to be of service, not to the active rain community but to my local community.

Lenn - Touche.....although the only comment you made that matters to me is the "because I want to".  Good for you and keep it up.

Yes Ryan you are real ;)

You have the right idea for the use of AR.  I like my points and this is a great place to network, yadda, yadda, yadda BUT it comes down to using this as a PROSPECTING tool to attract clients!

FYI:  I hate the whining and bellyaching posts too!

Ryan,

Good post and good question. I think everyone has their own reasons for blogging and not everyone is going to be happy with everyone elses reasons for their blog. I consider my blogging "ramblings of the moment" and nothing more. Sometimes they're educational, filled with facts, helpful and yes even sometimes completely senseless. But it's my blog and my posts and I can do what I want with it, and I do. I hope people aren't blogging to make others happy or afraid to blog how they really feel for fear of what soemone else might think. Love the post and subject look forward to any comments you might have. I think if it was truly about the points I wouldn't be blogging here. I have my own web sites and two blogs on two of the sites that I could be doing alot with to get my sites and blogs higher in the ranks. AR is social with other agents and lenders and that makes it fun.
