Not the Queen-But It Was an Honor to be Nominated-Chasco Fiesta Coronation Ball

Well, if you recall. a few weeks ago I told you about being nominated for Queen Chasco in the Chasco Fiesta Coronation Ball (for my SPCA involvement). See I’m Practicing the Queen’s Wave.

There was much anticipation; had to buy a long, formal gown; had to make sure Craig’s black suit was dusted off. I got messages every few days from the ladies in charge (Tina Shelton and Jamie Mick-both nominees themselves) updating me on where to go and what to do. (I don’t usually let people get away with that but in this case, I waived my orneriness).

This entire evening is to raise money for Lighthouse for the Blind. The last number I heard was that $70,000 was raised that evening between the tickets and the silent auction items.

We were given orchid corsages to wear. During dinner the previous Kings and Queens were presented to us. The nominees were told that after dinner we were to meet in the Bride’s Room for a photo session and a champagne toast with chocolate covered strawberries. Then we were lined up to be “presented” to King Pithla and Queen Chasco. (Roa Musunuru and Bonnie Howard).
We then waited breathlessly for the big announcement........and, it wasn’t Toni Weidman or Gigi D. Evans. But it was a lady very deserving of the honor (she was a nominee for 5 years and very active in the community).

My wonderful friend, Gigi D. Evans was nominated too. (We had been calling each other Queenie for weeks). Craig looked great in his dress-up clothes.

I was very happy to have been a nominee: it is a great honor to recognized by the people in the community for community work. And, I thoroughly enjoyed the pageantry.

I was nominated by Gail Armstrong, Exec Director of SPCA Suncoast; here with her husband, Peter.
