What is Homearama? Homearama is a 16-day single-site display of fully furnished and fully landscaped custom showcase homes that demonstrate the latest in home construction, design, furnishings and technological innovations. It is the 25th year that it has been staged by Tidewater Builders Association in South Hampton Roads. This year, 14 builders are constructing 15 homes for the event. Over 100,000 guests are expected over the two-week period.

Where is it? The event is at The Estates of Pitchkettle Farms in Suffolk. Nestled in the countryside of Suffolk, the site location is just off Route 58, only a few miles from downtown Suffolk.

When is it? Sept. 30-Oct. 15, from noon until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

How much does it cost? General admission is $10 for a one-day pass and $17 for a two-day pass. Active-duty military/seniors get a $1 discount Mondays through Thursdays, except Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9 only. Children 12 and under, and guests in wheelchairs are free.

Theme Homes:

  • The Charity House, built by Charlie Anderson Builder Inc. with proceeds to benefit the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
  • The Building Trades Academy House, built by J.F. Schoch Building Corp. with proceeds to benefit TBA's training program in the building trades for economically disadvantaged residents.
  • The Suffolk House, built by Wendell Homes, will showcase Suffolk's heritage as well as its current attractions and local businesses.
  • The Electronic Dream Home built by Area Builders of Tidewater Inc. and featuring the newest innovations in household technology and media integration.
  • The Jamestown 2007 House built by WATAB Construction Corp. in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement.
  • The Ultimate Chef's Kitchen built by Richmarc Building Corp. and featuring the latest products and appliances for home food preparation and entertaining.
  • The Ultimate Retreat built by Shade Tree Custom Homes & Development LLC will showcase the ideal in home relaxation and enjoyment, including a lavish pool, game room and home theater.

Other Highlights:

  • "Two for Tuesdays" with Cox Communications offering two-for-one admission to anyone presenting a Cox Communications cable bill on Tuesday, Oct. 3, or Tuesday, Oct. 10.
  • Military Appreciation Day on Monday, Oct. 2 allows buy one get one free admission to active duty military members presenting a valid military i.d. card.
  • Realtors Day, sponsored by SuffolkFirst Bank is set for Wednesday, Oct. 4, when area realtors are admitted free all day long with a business card. Early birds enjoy a hearty breakfast from 9:30-11 a.m.
  • Celebrity Chef John Shields, host of the popular PBS show Coastal Cooking, will be on hand from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5 whipping up delicious Chesapeake Bay specialties in The Ultimate Chef's Kitchen of The Craftsman home built by Richmarc Building Corp.
  • A Taste of Suffolk, sponsored by Virginia Natural Gas and HR Magazine, from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10 will allow guests to sample some of the best cuisine this area has to offer.
  • Uncle Charlie's All-American Kids Carnival will take place Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Charity House. Come for an old-fashioned neighborhood carnival event with lots of fun surprises including the CHKD healthy bear, pet therapy dogs, games, face painting and carnival treats.
  • The Homearama Furniture Sale from noon-6 p.m., Monday, October 16 where visitors will get the chance to purchase the beautiful furnishings and décor from the Homearama homes.
  • Southern Hospitality Auto Group and Cutting Edge Water Sports will showcase the latest models in vehicles and boats on display in selected driveways.
  • Presenting sponsor Branch Banking & Trust Company of Virginia (BB&T) will have an ATM machine located on-site for visitors' convenience.
  • An exhibit center featuring over 100 booths showcasing housing-related products and services.
  • A variety of workshops and entertainment are scheduled throughout the event.

Where is it? From I-64 or I-664 at Bowers Hill take Route 58 West. Travel approx. 13 miles. Turn right onto Pitchkettle Farms Road. Travel approx. 100 yards and turn left into the community.
