Living in DC: H Street NE/Atlas District

When looking at DC neighborhoods to reside, there are many options to choose from depending on your living criteria. One such residential neighborhood is H Street NE/Atlas District, a future of the light rail and growing hub for local retail commerce and home of the Atlas Performing Arts Center, the only community-based performing arts center in Washington.











"The H Street neighborhood was one of Washington's earliest and busiest commercial districts, and was the location of the first Sears Roebuck store in Washington, but it went into decline after World War II. Businesses in the corridor were severely damaged during the 1968 riots and did not start to recover until the 21st century." (Wikipedia)











SHOPPING AND RESTAURANTS

In 2003 the District created a plan to revitalize the corridor - anchored by the Atlas --, it has become a nightlife center with local restaurants and bars like Sticky Rice, Argonaut, Dangerously Delicious Pies, and live music venues such as the Red and the Black and the Rock & Roll Hotel.















CONDOMINIUMS

The majority of dc condos for sale in the H Street/Atlas District neighborhood are converted townhomes, but a new construction project by Urbanland Company, called The Renee is the best deal in the area. The Renee is a mixed-use project with 18-unit condominiums and 4 retail spaces built in 2009. The price ranges from $150ks to the low $300ks.











TOWNHOMES

Like most townhomes in Washington DC, H Street NE/Atlas District is known for its wide array of Victorian-style townhomes. The home prices range from $199k-$525K.
