"My theory for this place is that it should be made the most attractive place in the West for homes--a place for schools, colleges, literature, science, first-class newspapers and everything the above imply."
--William Jackson Palmer, 1871
William Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, had a vision. He used the profits from his railroad enterprise to help build Colorado Springs and to develop a parks system. In doing so, he created a legacy.
Built in 1886, the Garfield school, provides an example of the "quality" of structures that were built during that era. It has been said that size and detailing provided "concrete testimony of the growing wealth and permanence of the town." http://www.springsgov.com/plan/historic/documents/RPTCOSPfin.pdf This school building is located on corner of Wahsatch and Willamette, in the downtown Colorado Springs area. It is now the home of the Community Prep school.
Sow a thought, reap an action;
Sow an action, reap a habit;
Sow a habit, reap a character;
Sow a character, reap a destiny.
-------Samuel Smiles
As I write this, I realize that tomorrow is the start of: A new morning A new day A new week. How will I spend the next 24 hours?
Will I make it count? What about you?
I hope each of you have a productive week that will count in the long run.
